Vernazza was the only town of Cinque Terre that we visited, but it definitely had all of the charm that we were looking for!
It's very small, but seems to have a rich culture and nothing but beautiful sights. Sure, there's some gift shops and whatnot, but I didn't feel like I was in a giant tourist trap being here. There's quite a few restaurants, shops, gelato, a beach, and the train station is right in the heart of the town.
Sadly, there are no taxis, Ubers, nothing else you can take in Vernazza besides one bus that runs around every three hours. With all of our luggage, it was not fun hiking back and forth to this bus stop. At the train station, we were given the bus schedule, but it was a listing confusing to read...so we ended up missing a couple of our busses (and DEFINITELY feeling like that episode of Spongebob in Rock Bottom....) Every time we left our Airbnb (which was all the way at the top of the town,) we had to walk about 2 miles down a hill....with luggage! It was interesting to say the least. But I guess in a way it adds to the town's culture, as it seemed that most people here just walked to where they needed to go.
There was also a nice hiking trail wrapped around the town. It's for sure worth a trip here, as you will definitely get an experience here that you won't anywhere else! read more
