Out of the five villages, Manarola was -- by far -- my preferred town.
It doesn't have Monterosso's beach, nor does it have quite as spectacular views as Vernazza, but it does have a mellow, relaxed vibe without quite so many tourists clogging every step. You can also browse cute shops and some nice restaurants.
You can take the [steep] steps up the hill to experience sweeping views of the full city. I liked these paths the most because I didn't have to worry about hikers tailgating when I moved too slow for them. The paths were wide enough that people could simply walk around me.
Definitely don't miss Manarola if you visit Cinque Terre! read more
