Pulled pork taco. $12.65 Aussie $

$$ great food and quick service. Outdoor seating, no ac inside. Amazing flavors and drinks look fancy.

    Fried halloumi

I enjoyed a quick lunch bite here. They had several yummy sounding items. I decided to start with fried halloumi cheese, which was on the starters part of the menu. I'm glad I didn't order anymore, as it was a large portion and I barely made it through that! It came with a tasty dipping sauce, and the cheese was crispy and hot. Very yummy and very filling. My server was friendly and attentive. They were doing a booming business by the time I left, so it looks like a popular place.

    Skinny Paloma

Great atmosphere, went on a week night around 7 o'clock and we received our food relatively quick. Drinks took a bit longer but still pretty quick. I got the skinny Paloma, pretty tarte yet light and refreshing. The burrito bowl was great, especially enjoyed the avocado.

    Cauliflower tacos

Wow! If all you read is this then... get the cauliflower bites! They're actually so good that I'm going to learn how to make them at home. This was such a lovely spot for lunch with lots of vegan options, decent portion sizes and delicious food. I'll be back for sure!

$17 cocktail which was more like a mocktail-no alcohol

Great food! Loved my taco bowl. The drinks are rather fancy in appearance. And refreshing but doesn't taste like there is much alcohol. I feel like they are fancy mocktails and for the $17-20 that you are paying for a cocktail, you are expecting to get a bit more than pretty pink drinks with umbrellas and sprinkles. The location is great and staff was very friendly. Due to the large disappoint for the drinks and price tag for what you are getting, I had to take off 2 points.

    Chicken burger in black bun
    Kat S.

Great vibe, dimmed lights, good location, super friendly service and an interesting menu. I had a chicken burger - marinated char grilled chicken, guacamole, avocado tequila aioli, lettuce and corn salsa ($14) plus fries on the side ($3) served with grated cheese (I'm guessing Parmesan!). This burger normally comes with a brioche bun but I asked them if I could have black buns with it (charcoal). No problem for them, easy as! Love that. In terms of flavour, I think it just needed a bit more kick. Seasoning for example. More tang in the salsa. Etc etc. Plus, I found the filling to bun ratio was a bit off. For the first time since I've discovered burgers, I was left with half of the burger top as it was too thick and there wasn't enough filling OR flavour to cut through all that bread! I would go back to try tacos for sure, but I was disappointed with the burger.

A nice little place off the street next to JB HI FI. Excellent menu with share plates as well as taco burgers and mini tortillas. More Mexican than "Latin". The sangria was nice but not as alcoholic as I'd like we ordered the jug between us and walked out not feeling like we hadn't had a drink...may be it wasn't alcoholic? The taco burger was a good concept and the filling was nice but the actual taco wasn't the best. The best part was that there were good gluten free and vegetarian options. The tortillas were lovely. Busy place at lunchtime but relatively attentive service considering the business of the place. I'd probably stay away from the taco burger next time. Nice atmosphere and clean.

    Review Highlights - Comuna Cantina

We also had the grilled corn but I wasn't as much of a fan - the queso fresa was overkill in my opinion if not my companion's.

I tried this place out on a public holiday and they obviously wasnt expecting so many people as they were fairly under-staffed. This meant that the service was often slow but it couldn't really be helped - it wasn't like she was just standing around ignoring us! The menu is extensive with local dishes from all over the latin america precincts. Further, they do a great taco deal where you can buy any four of the 19 different taco (including 4 vegetarian options) for only $24! The soft shell tacos are well sized so by the time you have finished the fourth you are perfectly sated. The restaurant is decorated with various Latin American ornaments which adds to the cozy atmosphere with their bright colours and funky patterns. Its a shame that all the tables are covered by a big paper sheet (were we meant to bring our own colouring pens for when our conversation drys up?) and some of the plates were plastic but this may be aimed at families with kids which are messy or something...?? It looked like a family run restaurant and they obviously work well together creating a successful business with many patrons and since I'm definitely going to go back, they've certainly worked their latino voodoo well!

Once inside though you can seem Villa Maria is no shrinking violet. Bright colours, laltino beats and authentic air will accompany the meal. As with Daniel B. I made for the four taco option - it seemed the easiest way to try as much as possible. WARNING it is for the greedy guts and I didn't quite finish *shame*. I will be going back for the mole, to listen to the once a month live music and to try one of the tamarind margaritas - see you there! Just make sure you book!

Gerties was always popular on a Tuesday for uni students needing a welcome just-shy-of-mid-week distraction. For me, that was a few years ago but not a lot has changed. I also recently got to experience the classier side of Gerties when I attended a birthday dinner there. I think the very best food they have is hands down their flatbread - known to us plebs as pizza. They use fresh herbs and veggies and the cheese is literally melt-in-your-mouth quality. They also do some of the most tender calamari I've tasted. Divine! For a function like the birthday dinner I attended, you can also order bread, cheese, and meat platters to start - also really delicious. Gerties food is commendable if you ever want more than a drink or four. You can also do a few cheeky ciders without hurting the bank too much. If you're a beer or wine fan, they have pretty impressive lists for both.
