Compound is the ultimate Australian mix between surf hub and coffee shop. The shop has a incredibly local and humble vibe, which attracts both young, old and everyone in between. The owners are very present in the shop, and take pride in the coffee they serve. I have never once had a bad coffee from there, which is impressive! The prices are average for the area, but worth every cent. Compound also offers a variety of sweet nibbles, and bagels delivered from a shop in Brisbane. The seating is arrange so that you can be social, or bring your laptop in for work! There is also free wifi, which is a bonus. They have seating outside which is covered, allowing you to sip your brew and enjoy the rain. I come back for the good coffee but also for the vibe. Fantastic little find in Coolum, I only stopped by for a quick coffee at 11am and even though it was busy there were seats outside. The cold brew was super strong but light in flavour. If you are in the area stop by and get a brew! read more

I was stuck working for a month in an apartment next door. I wandered out and found Compound and was pleasantly surprised by how great they were. It's comparable to other third wave coffee shops you'll find elsewhere. Really fantastic pour overs (I loved the Guatemalan the most, but also enjoyed Kenya and Hey Buddy) and long blacks, which are the two things I was getting the most. The employees were extremely helpful, giving me tips and answering coffee questions, as well as remembering me and my preferences. They even grabbed a roast I was interested in trying on one of their trips to Padre to pick up more beans. read more

I detoured to Compound as a way to right a terrible wrong that I made on the main street. (As a word of advice, always follow your gut instinct for good coffee). Here I found myself in a bubble of relaxation and community secure behind the commercial pursuits of the main street: doubling as a surf board, accessory and apparel stop, this peaceful coffee bar serves care-imbued coffee at tables or bar stools to subtle beach indie tunes whilst locals pop in for a chat with the barrista. There are a range of pre - made treats to accompany your cuppa. At the breakfasty time of writing there are lusciously flavoured muffins, croissants and bircher muesli.
