Of all the different service companies we've dealt with in our 18 years of living in Kitchener and…read moreWaterloo Region, what stands out most is the difficulty we've had with tree services, about six of them, mostly not showing up when they said they would, skipping or delaying appointments without warning, explanation or apology. Their work, when they finally did it, was OK but not anything to write home about. The one notable exception was Randy Vermaas at Martin's Tree Service who did some tree removals and plantings for us a few years ago and was outstanding.
My latest unsatisfactory experience was with Rayzor Edge Tree Service of St. Jacobs.
I called them to ask for someone to come by to give me a tree-trimming estimate. Within days and after a phone call asking when I'd be available, Ray showed up. He seemed very nice, knowledgeable and had some good ideas about what needed to be done with my trees. He left promising an e-mailed estimate.
Ten days later, after not receiving the estimate, I called the company and asked about the holdup. A very personable woman apologized for the delay and said she would get Ray to send the estimate (soon).
Now it's nine days after that phone call. I've received no estimate, no e-mail or phone call explaining the delay. I mean, if there's a good reason for why it's taken so long, I'm ready to hear it. Stuff happens. But nothing.
Wanting to be fair and reasonably patient, I gave them one more try and called again. This time, a man answered saying "Please hold." I did ... however after seven minutes of waiting through the crummy on-hold music, I hung up. Enough.
That's the way they've handled my estimate. What then can I assume about the thoroughness and professionalism of their actual tree-trimming work? If this is the way they (don't) take care of business, they'll not have mine.
