Compass Church has been a great support system for our family, teaching our family about the character of God. There are many programs available to families and singles. The Women's Groups are very warm and inviting. There are also options in traditional services, contemporary services and evening services all happening on 3 campuses; Padre Dr, Main St, and Marina. All offer exceptional music with talent coming from Monterey County. Christmas On Main Street is well worth checking out each year just before Christmas. Pastor Mike taught Bible based messages for 35 years here and retired this year. We are excited about the arrival of Pastor Todd and all that a new Pastor will bring. read more

I have watched sermons from Dr. Mike for years on TV because I live miles away and continue to find he is a man of God who tells it like it is. Every sermon hits something I feel my family and I need to hear. I often buy his CD's, but mostly I appreciate that he preaches Jesus Christ and tells us what God expects of us in this modern world. Great worship, great service. They have really good children ministry. So blessed to have Pastor Mike teaching and spreading the words from the Bible and this church is a proud American and proud followers of Christ. It is very refreshing and encouraging to see this church stands it's ground and not be influenced or yoked to this new culture in society. I need a church that shares my beliefs to bring my mother to. They do believe in salvation and being born again. They do both contemporary and an amped up service. My mom likes the speaking style of Pastor Mike. He adds humor to his sermons and is soft-spoken. I like the fact that he speaks the truth. No watered-down stories that people want to hear. You'll find yourself challenged when you come. They go out of their way to find guest speakers. That can add to the value but can also feel gimmick-y. You either love God or not, no need to try to make a church entertainment. But the people they find are genuine. I can't speak from experience as we will switch between this and their other campus but they are modern, they have plenty of helpful ushers and between this and the Padre drive campus, we've found a church home. read more

Don't let the name fool you. This church feels very "non-denominational" and it's not intimidating. I'm reviewing the Contemporary Church, as opposed to the more traditional Padre Drive church. I've been coming here for at least three years. It's a big church, but not a MEGA church. This is the place to come if you are seeking. Pastor Mike Ladra is a GREAT teacher, and he makes you laugh a lot. His messages are delivered in a contemporary language. It's not fire and brimstone. The 9:00am service is contemporary Christian music and the 10:30 service is more New Age-- which can be loud, if that's what you prefer. If you think of religion as being dogmatic... think again. You are not made guilty into having to give money...there is no pressure. I always leave each service feeling inspired and hopeful. Other perks-- GREAT place for families. Grades 2-5 has a separate ministry with video games, their own stage where they can sing music and lots of activities. The younger babies and toddlers receive great FREE care in a beautiful setting. There are plenty of ministries and counseling services for everyone-- from grief counseling to addiction and recovery. The women's bible studies are life-changing and newcomers are made to feel welcome and comfortable (as I discovered when I first showed up on the scene.) Check it out! read more

We were attending another church in town for awhile but I just didn't get that welcome vibe like i do at the compass. I like the way pastor mike preaches for I understand what he is trying to get across. I also like the fact that there are different ways to hear/watch the service if not able to attend in person. We moved here about an year ago from a church that hired a "my way or the highway" pastor, so we hit 68 and came here. First, the kid's programs are great. My kids can't wait to go to church on Sunday. Second, the music is the best I've seen. A mix of new and older songs. Finally, Pastor Mike is a great teacher with a sense of humor and insight into the Bible. It's a larger church that feels small. read more

Do not come here. One time was all it took to see that this isn't a church of Christ. Jim Jones' predecessor spent the first fifteen minutes guilt tripping "takers" to give the church $500,000 then proceeded to show off vacation photos from a recent trip with his family on all of the jumbo trons. The rest of the "seminar" was the most negative way to make people feel bad about themselves and how god resents them for any little thing that does not follow the commandments. They do not teach about repentance or forgiveness. This church is focused on money and guilt tripping "Christians" into paying in order to receive love and acceptance from God. A cult just about. That's not how it works. I do not even consider "pastor" mike a pastor, he is a dictator and guilt tripping fool to make you feel bad about yourself. Completely unrealistic. I'm no saint or claiming to know it all, but I know wrong when I see it. This place does not teach the word of God but only false gospel. I don't understand how this is even legal. read more
