Even though we are not under a mask mandate in our city, they were requiring all people over 10 to put on a mask in their office. This took me by surprise as I had been there a couple months prior with no mask requirement. I asked how they could do this with no mandate and the lady very rudely said "we are a private business we can do whatever we want" WHOA OK. So, somehow I politely said "I would prefer not to". When checking with our Dr. (Dr. Dietiker) she declined service unless I masked up. It was apparent they could care less if my children were seen, all they cared was that I put this muzzle on my face. I walked out and said I guess I had to find a new doctor then. I realize I overreacted and I collected myself and walked in 5 minutes later. I have 3 kids, they need their well checks, I was going to go against what I believed in order to get them the care they need. I am truly just doing my best to do what's right for me and my children, I am not ok with masks and do not believe they protect me or anyone else (I am a well person), but I was willing to do this for my kids. I was very rudely told that all 3 appointment were now filled with other patients. They went and talked to the doctor again who said I could be seen in over an hour. Our actual appointment time had not even passed and they somehow filled in my spot with 5 minute notice?! I very sadly told them to tell our doctor of 5+ years thank you for the years of care, but I would have to go find a doctor that would respect my desire not to wear a mask and they really rudely said "good luck with that, you won't find a doctor who won't require a mask" and laughed at me. - Oh, by the way I found a doctor who will respect my wishes within the hour (he used to work for them and was the best pediatrician they ever had, but started his own practice, maybe because they suck) and my kids are already scheduled to be seen...no mask required for well people (THANK YOU common sense)! Every business has a choice to work with people who do not wish to be masked, but they refused. This is a very sad world we live in where something that is NOT proven to be helpful comes before the well being of my children. All they had to do was be a professional, have some compassion when I walked back in there. I'm sure stressed out mothers are not new to them & they made very sure I walked out that door forever. This to me is NO way to treat a long time customer or anyone if you are in customer service. Sure I could have responded better, but I tried to make up for it by going back, they could have smoothed things over and worked to get me back in, but it was a real slap in the face to say they already filled up my spot in 5 minutes.. btw I was the ONLY person in the lobby and I did not see a stream of people come in before me. They COULD have worked me back in, but they chose not to. I'm very sorry this ended like this and I hope they don't treat anyone else who has the same convictions as me the same way. I am writing this for anyone else who wants to do what's right for their health and not mask up so you know, there are pediatricians in Columbia who will respect you and see you without forcing you to do something you are not comfortable with. I will say also, the billing situation at Tiger is a MESS (they out source it and I had SO many bills with fees for services I did not receive & late notices for bills I never got originally), it is nearly impossible to speak to a person if you have questions and our Dr. was kind of dismissive & she always rubbed me the wrong way...but I gave her the benefit of the doubt as the professional. I will not miss them & probably will wish I had left sooner. Sad that they had to end it this way. I can't wait to be treated with respect at our new Dr.'s office!
