If you decide to shop here, PLEASE check the dates on your items. Most of the things are over a year outdated. I don't know how they get away with that legally. I won't shop here again.

This is a food bank…read more Why give? Because they're working hard to get food into hungry people's hands. This is a mission. They have to break even, but this is a mission of theirs. It's worth supporting. 1. You may make a food donation, if you have something in quantity that is of good quality that you're ready to donate. 2. The second way to help is to give your time. They need help making up boxes (about 30 lbs per box of fresh food) that are distributed to needy persons up and down the east coast of the US and out into the middle of the country. 3. Give em some cash. They have to pay for all their utilities and their building and they have paid staff as well as volunteers. This food bank makes up food boxes that get distributed not just all over Lancaster County, but all over the eastern half of the country. They really help a LOT of people. You can make a difference helping them help others. Lancaster County is a special place. Blessings of Hope is part of what makes it special.

This is the second time we got to pack boxes for those folks that are in need and it makes you feel good for sure . The staff here at the central Pennsylvania food bank are so friendly, kind and helpful and they definitely appreciate the time you give . We look forward to getting back up there and packing more boxes and we have to beat the record of 141 boxes .

There were 42 of us all volunteering to create and pack boxes of assorted canned/packaged food for 1.5 hours, followed by a tour of the facility. The place is HUGE and feeds 1 million people annually and some 60 million meals. While I didn't stick around for the tour, I will volunteer again. It was a phenomenal and rewarding experience knowing we were preparing food to feed the food-insecure throughout the DMV.

Fast forward to today, Capital Area Food Bank feeds 60 million meals a year through direct distribution and non-profit partners. They are like the Costco of food banks where non-profits like Martha's Table get their meals to hand out locally. If you're looking for volunteer opportunities, Capital Area Food Bank hosts two groups a day Tuesday through Saturday to help organize food donated at their distribution center. It's a massive warehouse with heavy equipment so you have to be 12 and older to volunteer. Once inside and trained, you'll notice inspiring murals and art inside walking guests through the work. Outside is a working garden with an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven to help teach youth about nutrition. Capital Area Food Bank is making an impact on the D.C. area!

I had the pleasure of volunteering here recently. I have volunteered throughout the city at…read moreseveral different nonprofits in the city and I have to say that this is one that probably touches more lives than any other in the city. What they do here is not a small feat. What goes into to what they accomplish here is many man hours of a dedicated workforce. On top of those that are employed this place also depends on the many that walk through those doors and chip in whenever they can. While here I was told that some of the volunteer days that they have planned are booked months in advance. The facility is top notch and runs like a well oiled machine. However they have said that they have already outgrown this facility space. Even though that may be the case, they don't let that stop their mission. The families that the GPCFB reach are many and without them would not be able to maintain a home life that is perceived as normal. What little you can give is greatly appreciated and there are donation bins inside the front doors. Did you know that they get more donations for items that are considered junk food than healthy food items? That trail mix does seem nutritious, but what really helps them out was that fruits, vegetables, meat and the like.

I do want everyone to be aware though that they do sell expired items, like hand sanitizer that was expired from 7 months ago. Even with the receipt they refused to take it back. That is just not good customer service.
