I used to volunteer at this NHIFP for almost a year back in 2017-and 2018. Due to certain…read morecircumstances, I didn't want to be part of their volunteer program. They moved few doors down. That is not the reason why. Living literally 5 minutes away from this food bank, (walking distance), I still wanted to be some sort of help to them and help the homeless community and feed the hungry people that are practically everywhere. They have couple of entrances adjacent to eachother and are affiliated with the church next door. With that being said, I packed up a bag of goodies and walked over there at 8:15AM on 7/27/26. They are only open on Mondays and Fridays. (Please update your hours on Yelp so you don't confuse people). Some volunteer workers really go out of their way to help people, and a few others will give you a blank, confused, and lost stare that makes you feel very small, like Daniel the other day. On the bright side, Barbra and the director of this food bank named Sloan were helpful, kind, positive, softspoken and knowledgeable. Anyway, packed my bag with: 2 boxes of Rice-a-Roni Pasta, 2 cans of Progresso Chicken Noodle soup, 1 box of family size Kellogs Berry cereal, variety of Oatmeals, 4 Toto Cookies. Some other types of canned food, 2 boxes of Macaroni & Cheese, 1 bag of Plain Bagels, (count of 6), one big box of Macadamia Nut cookies, and a single, small, lonely chips. This is NOT my first time donating food to them. I have seen a few perishable and non-perishable items/products with expired dates on them. That is UNACCEPTABLE!! They wouldn't eat it, so why give it to someone else?? This pantry is only donations for food/beverages. Nothing else. They also get food from our local supermarkets such as Ralphs, Vons, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts. Before they open, there is a long line outside to pick up a bag or two. Overall, it's not a bad place, but few volunteers need to go that extra mile, put a genuine/sincere smile on their faces and pretend not to be SO pretentious.. The value of the food is what you make it to be!

Just like another poster said, the information on their website completely different from how they…read moreactually operate. I've been here from groceries before and I saw online that they offered rental assistance (I lost my job and still don't know how I'm gonna pay this month rent) So gathered all the documents that they listed were required, I printed out the form on the website, filled in out and gave it to my landlord to complete, got my bank statements and all my other documentation together. (the website just states to drop the documents off in person or mail them) So I called to see if I could come in to drop everything off and that's when I was told, I had to have been receiving other services from them for at least the last 6 months to qualify for rental assistance and also they were not accepting applications until September. SO WHY WAS NONE OF THAT ON THE WEBSITE? Why are there detailed instructions about how to apply and instruction to mail the application without the rest of the information? I EMBARRASSED myself by taking the form to my landlord and having him sigh it all to be told it was for nothing? It's ridiculous and actual insanity that they they don't give ALL the information online. It definitely makes me think they say one thing to get funding... and then tell the community something else. SHADY beyond belief.

What a fabulous organization! I found them through Volunteer match and was immediately drawn to…read morethem for 3 reasons -flexible, structured periods of time to volunteer. They don't give you an 8 hour window where you are required to attend - the food collected goes to local food organizations to feed the homeless throughout LA - it's a great excuse to get outdoors & get some exercise! Motivation I love the entire concept of this organization. It is challenging for the impoverished to get access to fresh fruit and produce. A low income man in the Midwest a few months ago went to the hospital and was diagnosed with Scurvy! Yes, like the pirates illness. Why? He was only eating cheap, frozen meals 3x a day for the past 18 mos., no fruit or produce, and was severely vitamin C deficient! MDs diagnosis, not mine. Access to healthy fruits and veggies is critical to health but can be challenging given the expense. In comes hero organization Food Forward! They pair up with local home owners who have excess fruit or veggies. They have volunteers come out to "pick" their excess fruit. The fruit is then taken to local food banks in the area and distributed outward. How cool is that? I spent 1.5 hrs with them picking grapefruit in Woodland Hills. It was such a fun way to volunteer my time but manageable enough to fit into my schedule. I loved it and look forward to volunteer with this terrific organization again in the future. Check them out!

However when I went to pay for my items, the woman at the counter started naming off RIDICULOUSLY high prices. And when I politely commented that those weren't the listed prices, the woman glared at me and told me those weren't the prices!??! She tried to sell me a kid's sweater for 12 bucks, when according to the printed list it was priced at $4.99. The place is terribly crowded, and poorly organized, and it's especially difficult to get through the women's clothing section. I guess the only positive I give this is that there's a lot to look through, but it seems outweighed by the false pricing and bad customer service. Will not be coming back

Thank you for this insightful honor to testify about MEND's awesome services! When I was having…read morefinancial challenges eight years ago, I was the last of fifteen lucky patrons who won a MEND'S lottery for practically free dental services. Since then, I have been a regular patient of both MEND's dental and medical services. Their dental doctors give me deep-teeth-cleanings every three months - to keep my "pearly whites" healthy and bright! Moreover, their vision doctors give me two comprehensive eye exams, yearly - with a pair of fashionable glasses to match. Although I am 62, MEND's health programs keep me looking, feeling and acting like I am in my mid 40's. My vision is excellent for my age; I've only lost six teeth and my health is above-normal. Moreover, I am proudly showing-off five, glowing dental-implants and am scheduled for one more. I love my visits to MEND. Everyone is robustly friendly and always speak positively, in Spanish or English - like a comfortable family. I can't help from being enamored with MEND's revolving staff and personally miss their fun when they are gone. They are also timely with setting my appointments, making advance courtesy calls, and following-up - even with my trifling concerns. Whenever I have had to wait, they promptly and clearly explain why and give me reasonable alternative dates. MENDS Board-Certified dentists, optometrists, ophthalmologists and opticians are all Five-Star specialists. They are supported by academically superior apprentices that are uniquely trained in their technical fields - with impeccable personal care and social skills. MEND maintains State-of-the-Art equipment and technologically current personnel. The MEND Doctors have Big-Fun in the clinic. You may have to endure some brilliant, esoteric music or videos when you are having your "mug" fixed. Therefore, I cherish my MEND Doctors, who heart-fully call me by name. Several stand out - like Dr. Susan C. Fredericks, Dr. Hale, Dr. Alvarado and Dr. Avocado. Watching and listening to them instruct their apprentices is extremely informative and entertaining - as they meticulously work as a team. Hence, I've absorbed so much health info over the years - while being dubbed the "Patient - Patient -" that I should be awarded an honorary degree! I also take advantage of MEND's generous Food Service Programs that provide heathy foods and meals; Clothing Programs that provide trendy clothes and shoes; and Fitness Programs that provide nutrition info and diverse exercises - for our homeless and struggling neighbors. Also, MEND's yoga and samba classes; and their special events for children - rock! In essence, you will love coming to MEND. They truly MEET EVERY NEED WITH DIGNITY! Clarence CHAZZ Ross
