Elmwood Cemetery is at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and North Street in the city's Old North End…read more The cemetery contains the graves of Ethan Allen's second wife, Frances "Fanny" Montresor Penniman (Ethan Allen is at the Greenmount across town), Zadock Thompson, Pilot Joseph Barron of MacDonought's flagship The Saratoga that participated in the Battle of Plattsburgh, a number of Revolutionary War soldiers, and many early town residents. It is in excellent condition with neatly mowed grass and the headstones appear intact. The gates were closed when I was here but it is still possible to arrange a tour.
