Anyway, the thing with this beach has a lot to do with the beach boxes that are located here. I'm not entirely sure of the purpose of them, though I suspect that it has something to do with being a place to store your belongings while you go for a swim. While you find them along most of Melbourne's beaches, Brighton is particularly famous for them, and the fact that they are quite colourful is pretty cool as well. Still, it certainly isn't one of my favourite beaches.

It's made up of a series of ovals that are used on the weekends for local soccer teams, local rugby teams and probably local footy teams, with a nice path running alongside that is popular with dogs and their walkers alike. I really like to walk it at night - there aren't many people on the path and because it's the suburbs it's beautifully peaceful. The air smells like trees and the only sounds are one's feet crunching along the gravel and the frogs (yes, the frogs) croaking in the swamp. It's pretty wonderful.

There is an undercover outdoor eating area with a BBQ provided. This is enclosed by hedges and trees making it quite a nice private little section. There are two tables with long bench seats too. The park also has public toilets that are extremely clean. This is perhaps because this park is not ridiculously well known - in fact most people driving down High Street Road have no idea it is there. There is a pond in the middle that is full of lily pads and reeds. The water itself looked putrid. What was disappointing was that the pond itself is completely fenced off to the public. Two seats have been placed to 'overlook' the pond but all you can see is the fence when you sit down so they are a bit silly.

Kingston Heath boasts one of the longest flying foxes I've seen outside of a supervised adventure camp - easily double the average length. It's also got a cool spider web thing, and the whole playground is spread over a large area which makes a game of tiggy brilliant (and very helpful for keeping squabbling kids apart). There's even a spinning tea cup. Some sheltered areas, and some nice places to sit and chat if running around like a madman isn't your thing.

Commonly referred to as Brunswick Street oval or the Fitzroy cricket ground, this open field was…read moreonce home to the Fitzroy VFL club. It is still home to the local Fitzroy football club as well as juniors and the local cricket club. There are still remnants of the old-school historic fence line and gate that was once used by paying attendees of the football, who first started attending Fitzroy matches in 1883. This ground marks the gateway to Edinburgh gardens from the south. There is a heritage-listed grandstand that sits on the north boundary of the ground that is in immaculate condition. The hill on the north east of the ground, just next to the grandstand, provides the best view in my books. To watch any sporting game from here, with the city as your backdrop is an absolute pleasure. Hundreds of trees surround the ground which is used daily by masses of locals as there is a walking path paved on the outside of the boundary fence. A few years ago they renovated the cricket nets and provided public access to three quality brand new nets.

Lilydale Lake is a massive playground for Adults, Kids and Pets…read more In the centre is a huge lake which you can use for non motorised boating of fishing. The lake is surrounded by wet lands for birds and wildlife. There are kilometres of beautiful walking tracks and a big circuit walk around the lake itself with workout stations For children the is a massive play area with lots of equipment There is also lots of tables and benches on the lawn area or under cover with BBQ facilities provided. Lots of free parking on site so parking is easy. There is two off lead dog areas, one little one to the front side of the lake, and a big one down the back. The larger area is bordered by the lake wall on one side and rivers/creeks on the other 3. creating a barrier of sorts to keep the dogs in. The creek is ideal for dog to swim in. there is lots of open grassed area to play fetch or just let the dogs run. I take my dog here and 99%of the other owners are good with there dogs. My dog is very small so i normally worry about her playing with bigger dogs but she has had nearly all good experiences here If you are in the area do visit the lake, you will have a great day :)
