Bed bug trying to hide behind the mattress tag

Our room had bed bugs in the mattress. Luckily (unluckily?) I've had run ins with those things before, so the first thing I do when arriving in a new hotel room is check all around the bed and mattress. I first noticed some of the telltale black stains they leave behind. Then I poked at what at first appeared to be a larger stain, at which point it began scurrying around. That's when we decided we wouldn't be staying. The woman at the front desk (Grace) was wonderful and understanding, she immediately granted us a full refund and let us walk away. I only post this so future guests can protect themselves; if you decide to stay here, be sure to check the mattress in your room carefully (this was room 322). If one of these things hops a ride back to your home, you'll be in for a bad time trying to get rid of them. I also hope that the management will take this seriously. I sympathize with them: I'm not even sure how you can keep a hotel from getting infested with these things nowadays, and dealing with it after the fact is incredibly expensive, but they definitely need to try.

I've stayed here at least a handful of times now, since I travel here for work often. If it weren't for the location, I'd stay elsewhere because I do prefer more modern updated hotels, but the hotel is right on N Orange, so you can't beat it. It's directly across from the hospital and you're right next to Downtown, a few minutes from College Park and Winter Park. The hotel interior is dated.. really needs a face lift (see the photos). Nonetheless, I feel safe here, love the location, and keep coming back. At night, they lock the doors so you can't ever without a key, unless you go to the front and ring for checkin (I like that extra safety). The parking lot is very large, and it's the only hotel with a great location in the area that doesn't charge you to self-park ($$), or force you to valet ($$$). There is no valet here, but there's plenty of parking and they don't charge you for it. The complimentary breakfast (6:30-9:30) I usually skip or grab something simple right as I head out. It's a pretty big spread though, from hot items (eggs, potatoes, etc) and a waffle station, to cereals, breads and pastries, to fresh fruit, yogurt and hard boiled eggs, and of course coffee and other drinks. There's a Panera across the street if you sleep in, and a Wendy's next door, both which are very convenient to walk to. The amenities here are nice as well. All rooms have a fridge, a microwave, coffee machine, and a pull out sofa.. It's always nice to have a good size fridge in the room when staying for a few days so you can have leftovers, or just keep drinks in there. I really wish they had at least a set of updated rooms you could pay extra for; I'd be willing to pay. All-in-all in comparison to other local hotels, I find this one to be the best value, location, and the best overall option for me.. I finally joined the Choice Hotels program since I've been staying here at least a few days each month (too bad I couldn't add the stays I'd previously had). Oh - the staff is always very nice as well, from the front desk to the breakfast area.

Affordable and enough for the money. Feels safe. Doesn't have mirrors in weird places and has decent locks.

Not a bad room, pretty comfy bed n pillows. Only downside is our room is right by a high traffic area...so we hear everyones conversation.

If you don't follow your GPS like it's the voice of God, you'll drive past this place at least 10 times wondering if you're being pranked. Once you finally find it, though, you're in for a surprise. The hotel is attached to a magnificent steakhouse and gives off this classy vineyard-patio vibe that makes you feel like you're about to attend a wine tasting, even if you're just there for work like I was. Walking up, there are beautiful outdoor tables with glass tops where guests can relax, eat, and pretend they're important. Then you walk into the lobby and BAM dark wood floors, elegant furniture, comfortable sofas, and enough atmosphere to make you wonder, Wait what did I accidentally book? I was honestly concerned I'd somehow clicked the wrong hotel and was about to max out my credit card. Nope. Surprisingly affordable. The room? Fantastic. You've got a Keurig machine ready to fuel your caffeine addiction, a nice big TV, all the amenities you need, and then there's THE BED. Listen, I don't know if it's a pillow-top, a cloud-top, a Sleep Number, a NASA mattress, or if angels personally fluff it every afternoon, but that thing is dangerous. I laid down for what felt like five minutes and woke up the next morning. I slept harder than a newborn after a bottle. Now let's talk about room service. They have this little stand where you order directly from the steakhouse downstairs. I ordered dinner, expecting hotel prices that require a small bank loan. The bill was $35. I nearly called the front desk to report a pricing error. Meanwhile, I was hungrier than a hostage, and they delivered a meal fit for royalty. For a brief moment, I genuinely felt like a VIP. The hotel also has a nice bar for those who enjoy a drink. I don't drink, but if I did, I probably would've celebrated finally finding the entrance. Bottom line: great atmosphere, beautiful property, comfortable rooms, amazing food, affordable prices, and a mattress that may have supernatural powers. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Would I still need GPS to find it? Also absolutely.

Being acknowledged for my elite status and given water and snacks was a great touch. The lobby and restaurant areas were clean and beautifully laid out. I ordered fries and a glass of wine that night, and the food was packaged well with everything I needed. I was even impressed to see the manager helping out in the restaurant area. Unfortunately, I had a frustrating experience on Saturday morning. I asked the front desk person if the shuttle could take me to the botanical garden just 5 to 8 minutes away and they seemed annoyed, unhelpful, and disinterested. How do you work at a hotel and not know that? Their body language left a bad taste in my mouth. If they had been the one to check me in, I probably would have left. They definitely need an attitude adjustment. Thankfully, the rest of the stay was wonderful! Food: Breakfast and coffee that morning were delicious and truly restaurant-quality. It's some of the best food I've had at a Courtyard. Room: Spacious, clean, and comfortable with a fridge, coffee station, TV, desk, and sofa (just missing a microwave). The bed was heavenly and gave me the best sleep I've had in a long time. Amenities: The grounds were well-kept, including a nice gym and pool area. The front desk agent at checkout on Sunday at 3pm was also very pleasant. Despite that one bad interaction, the majority of my experience was positive. This is honestly one of the best Courtyards I've stayed at in the country, and I'll definitely stay here again when I'm back in the area!

Conveniently located less than two miles from Universal Studios, shopping, dining, and adjacent to Interstate 4 Exit 74A in the Restaurant Row, my partner and I chose to stay at the Drury Inn & Suites on a busy West Sand Lake Road as first-timers and must say it will not be our last! Check-in was easy and stress-free. With 238 guestrooms and suites, our clean and spacious room was nice, and being at the very end of the hall on the upper floor, it was pretty quiet. Daily breakfast is offered to include scrambled eggs, sausage, make-your-own Belgian waffles, biscuits and gravy, and more. They also have a 5:30 Kickback every evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to enjoy free dinnertime snacks and drinks; 3 alcoholic beverages are also included but optional. The staff were always nice and helpful. Please make sure to say hello to Miss Vickie in the mornings at the breakfast buffet. Free parking made getting around so much easier; other hotels charged. As a Universal Partner Hotel, they offer a free, scheduled shuttle to Universal Orlando Resort, which we used during our visit. There's also a number of dining options including B-Line Diner, the Market, Coconuts Poolside Bar & Grill, Dining to Go (room service/pool side dining), Rocks Bar, Descend 21, Fiorenzo, and Icharo. I dined at B-Line, Fiorenzo, and grabbed coffee/snacks at the Market. I'll write up separate reviews for those places. As mentioned earlier, this hotel is huge. I had a double room. We were able to go out and about without worrying about driving, which made the trip even more enjoyable. The hotel was easy to find, and parking is conveniently located right across the street with simple in-and-out access (though, of course, there is a parking fee -- which is never fun). Inside, the hotel is very clean, beautifully decorated, and the staff was accommodating throughout our stay. Our room was on the fifth floor, which I actually prefer when staying in a city -- the higher up, the better to avoid street noise. One of my favorite features of Embassy Suites is the room layout. The separation between the living room and bedroom is ideal, especially if someone wants to rest while others are still awake. The rooms have consistently been clean and feel very homey. Everything was great -- until Sunday morning. This is a dog-friendly hotel, which we love since we bring our dog and take her on walks so she's not stuck inside all weekend. However, checkout morning was pure chaos. One of the two elevators was out of service, it was peak checkout time, and there was also a princess pageant event happening, so the hotel was much busier than usual. Trying to get downstairs with my dog was extremely frustrating. I looked for stairs but wasn't sure if they were alarmed. When I asked an employee to confirm, she looked at me like I had five heads, which didn't help my already thin patience (I definitely did not have enough coffee for that situation). I eventually just went downstairs. Coming back up was even worse -- the line for the single working elevator was ridiculous. When I asked the front desk about the stairs, I was told they were accessible from outside. I didn't realize I needed my key card to re-enter through the outdoor stairwell (which makes total sense -- I was just aggravated at that point). After going back inside and trying again, I ended up walking up five flights of stairs with my dog. Thankfully, we had requested a late checkout, so we avoided the absolute peak of the chaos. Our friends on the third floor ended up carrying their luggage down the stairs because waiting for the elevator wasn't worth it. Unfortunately, being on the fifth floor with a lot of luggage, that wasn't really an option for us. Aside from that stressful morning, we really enjoyed our stay. The complimentary evening happy hour with drink tickets and small bites is always a highlight. We also had breakfast on Saturday morning -- and honestly, the breakfast is a major deciding factor whenever we choose to stay at a Hilton. Overall, a great stay with one very frustrating checkout experience.
