I did not stay here - but I was supposed to. Due to the rockslide and road damage on highway 70 - we were told we had missed the open window for the night (by about 11 minutes) and were going to have to either wait until the morning, camp out, or drive 3.5 hours around out of our way to get back to where we needed to be in Gunnison. We called around and found another hotel to stay in for the night and called this hotel to ask if they would cancel our reservation without charge due to the issue. The manager was kind enough to do so for us, which they did not technically have to do per the reservation agreement and it being less than 24 hours. That tells me plenty about the leadership here. Much appreciated and I would book here again in the future for sure while traveling through if needed. read more

I booked this hotel through Expedia and had one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the room smelled musty and moldy. The carpets throughout the hotel were stained, and the property felt dirty and poorly maintained. The shampoo dispenser in our shower was broken and hanging off the wall, and the ice machine appeared unsanitary. Even in the dry climate of Gunnison, Colorado, the towels provided each day felt damp. We also had to ask for laundry bags, retrieve our own toilet paper, and repeatedly found the room inadequately stocked with soap and other basic toiletries. Housekeeping was extremely limited. We were told that the standard service is only to replace towels and empty trash unless guests specifically request that the beds be made. We had to ask just to have our beds made. During our five-day stay, the hallway outside our room was vacuumed only once because they were "short staffed." Our room was only vacuumed after we asked. The linens also had multiple brown stains when we arrived. Concerned that they might be signs of bed bugs, I asked a staff member to come to the room and inspect them. They assured me the stains were caused by their washing machine and that the hotel did not have a bed bug problem. While I appreciated that they addressed my concern, stained linens are unacceptable in any hotel and only added to the impression that cleanliness and maintenance were not priorities. Breakfast quality depended entirely on who was working. One breakfast employee was exceptional - hardworking, organized, and kept everything running smoothly. She was the only bright spot during our stay. Unfortunately, when she wasn't working, the experience was completely different. The eggs were burned, and we found a hair cooked into the cheese on the eggs. That breakfast attendant sat on her phone at a table while there were dirty tables that needed to be cleaned up and also permitted someone to enter the kitchen coughing and sneezing around the food preparation area. This was completely unacceptable. Customer service was virtually nonexistent throughout our stay. Staff showed little interest in addressing concerns, and every request felt like an inconvenience. Even when the vending machine took our money without dispensing the item or returning our change, the front desk's initial response was that it wasn't their responsibility because the machine was owned by an outside vendor. Only after discussing the issue further did the employee agree to refund the $2.25. While I appreciated that it was ultimately resolved, this should have been an immediate customer service gesture rather than something that required debate over such a small amount. The most frustrating part came at the end of our stay. I became ill, experienced significant breathing difficulties, and was hospitalized, forcing us to check out early. Despite everything we had experienced - the condition of the hotel, the poor service, and a documented medical emergency - the hotel still insisted on charging us for an additional night's stay, claiming it was their standard policy. Attempting to resolve the issue only added to the frustration. The front desk initially told us that, because we had booked through Expedia, any refund had to be handled by Expedia. However, when we contacted Expedia, they informed us that the hotel first had to authorize the refund. When we relayed that information back to the hotel, the explanation changed: this time they acknowledged that they had to approve the refund but said it would still be processed through Expedia. We were then told the manager was unavailable and could not be reached until after 3:30 p.m. that day. After calling back after 3:30, we were informed that the manager would not actually be available until 7:30 the following morning. The constant runaround and shifting explanations made an already stressful situation even more difficult. When I finally reached the manager, Hanna, she told me she had notes from the owner stating that they would be enforcing the cancellation policy and charging us for an additional night's stay despite the circumstances. I asked if she could speak with the owner again or if I could speak with him directly. Her response was, "I CAN SPEAK WITH HIM AGAIN, BUT HE IS NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY." Given that we were dealing with a documented medical emergency and an early departure caused by hospitalization, this response came across as dismissive and lacking compassion. After relocating to another hotel in the Gunnison area, our breathing improved significantly, further reinforcing our concerns about the air quality and condition of our original room. I cannot recommend this hotel. Based on our experience, this property suffers from inconsistent housekeeping, deferred maintenance, poor customer service, and management that was unwilling to show flexibility even during a documented medical emergency. read more

The whole place! The whole place needs to be updated. I had a room that was freezing cold and the heating air conditioning unit blew only freezing cold air. When I talked to the front desk guy, he wanted to have the maintenance guy come to the room and fix it. It was around 10pm when we had gotten to the hotel, and we thought we would be able to relax and then go to bed. But we couldn't get comfortable because we had to keel our coats on. I asked if we could get another room, but that didn't work. The front desk guy wanted us to let the maintenance guy come fix the walk in freezer we had paid for. We ended up leaving to rent another place around midnight at a much more comfortable place. read more

So I booked 4 nights at this hotel starting on 7/11. Upon check-in, I thought I had actually booked 5 nights, but Rosa, the brusque desk person advised otherwise. I inquired about extending the fifth night and was told "... if a cancellation comes up, the fifth night will be billed at the base rate." I asked, what is the base rate and was further advised, it would be $257. Now, having family in the area, I have been a guest at this hotel about 27 times in the last 12 months or so. I am a Diamond Level member of the Choice Hotel Group (a fact that was never mentioned by hotel personnel). In just the last 12 months, this hotel has fallen into neglect, the likes of which I'm shocked. It seems the hotel was up for sale last fall and has changed hands. It's a Comfort Inn, so you know it's not going to be luxury, but the dingy rooms are even dingier and the grounds are a dangerous eyesore. Problems arose when Rosa, the rude desk clerk, noticed my wife walking our 80 lb golden retriever past the front desk. You see there's no place when booking online, to prepay the $25 pet fee. On top of that, we were never assessed a pet fee under prior management. Rosa was confrontational and nasty with my wife, as though we were looking to 'sneak' the dog on to the property. I encountered Rosa the next morning, when she denied she was rude. Rosa advised the pet fee is $25. Ok, no problem. I go outside to walk my dog and realize, this hotel that purports to be dog friendly is dog friendly no more. Gone is the green grass, in it's place dead plants and garbage heaps. I took a picture of a large heap of refuse that was hidden in the back and went back to the front desk to show Rosa. That's when I encountered the hotel's new 'General Manager', Sunny Patel. Of course, he never introduced himself, he did however, in a very threatening manner, tell me "...are you staying there? NO! you're staying in your room!" I had never been spoken to by a person involved in the hospitality industry like that EVER! My only reaction was to say I'll complain to corporate, upon which Mr. Patel told me to "go right ahead." You see the Choice Hotels are independently owned and operated. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Patel isn't the new owner himself or a relative of the owner. In truth, when you stay at a hotel, you do stay 'on the property' and although Mr. Patel is correct, I sleep in my room, I walk my dog through the wasted landscape and past the incredible garbage heap, a privilege I was charged an additional $100 over 4 nights to do. But even more to the point, when you're paying for a room at a hotel, you want the hotel staff to be courteous, service oriented and basically seen but not heard. In other words, they get out of your way for you to get business done. This hotel management is abusive, demanding and invasive. So, what do you get for $257 a night? Well you don't get a fitness center (see picture). I can't blame this on Sunny, since last summer I checked it out, and what little they had in equipment was broken. It's even worse now. You also don't get housekeeping, a left-over from Covid times. Apparently, this is done to protect hotel personnel, but seemingly at the risk of patrons. My wife and I both came down with Covid just two days after our stay. This policy is now posted at the front desk, where you can 'request' to have housekeeping clean the room. On a prior visit, before this policy was posted, I did request housekeeping, but they never got around to it. How does management square that allowing a hotel room to fester for days is not a health hazard in this era of Covid? Hotel rooms are infamous for bacteria. I'm not alleging this hotel caused my Covid infection... but... You also don't get green grass or any kind of landscaping. And the pool and hot tub are usually covered. And if you're a 'Elite" member of the Choice Hotel affinity program, don't expect this staff to care at all. Given the obnoxiousness and unprofessional attitudes of the desk clerk, Rosa, and GM Sunny Patel, the on-going neglect and decline of this hotel, we're moving on. It's too expensive to put up with their drama. No free breakfast is worth the abuse and lack of service. read more

We stayed at Comfort Inns across the country many night per year. We booked this hotel for 2 nights and checked out after one. I have never rated a Comfort Inn less than 3+. Poor ratings for shower, Room temperature controls, breakfast served. Staff could not make any adjustments. read more

While I know I am in a small town, this is one of those places that has gone to the effort to make the front look amazing, but you get to the room and see the flaws. Our room smelled like stale smoke, and the comforter was dirty. Bathroom had water damage and is very small. VERY noisy! We were woken up by lots of traffic from people getting up early and leaving TV's playing loudly. Thin walls. Also- point of contention for me. Sign says no dogs. We drove up to a woman bringing her dog out to pee... I wanted to bring our puppy but could not find a dog friendly room for the night. I paid $185 for one night in this dingy establishment. Carpets at least 20 years old and gnarly, the place in general disrepair. My room had one working channel on the TV, and the heater only worked in "hot blast" or nothing at all. Being 10 degrees F outside I was up every hour intermittently turning the heat on or off. Wow where to start, the hotel front desk staff doesn't know what they're doing. It took 20 minutes to check in. Even though the lobby looks very nice the property is old and showing its age. The room was clean but very old. There was no phone in the room I was told the phones don't work. So if you need something from the front desk you have to go down to it. I tried to check in a little early, was told it was not possible. Apparently they can't get a room ready in under three hours. I will not stay here again. read more

I live in a house directly behind this comfort inn. We have a couple dogs that are really bad about getting into the trash while we are away, so occasionally our back yard gets messy due to that. The comfort inn had been notorious with us for complaining and calling neighborhood services on us for this, upon MANY occasions of which, the officers sent to investigate agreed that it sounds like someone is just out to get us. That's all fine and good, but the Comfort Inn did some kind of work that required a TON of cardboard, foam and other trash, which they have stored LOOSLY in the alley between them and OUR BACKYARD. The wind almost DAILY blows all of their trash into our yard, making it look even messier than it ever was before. We have asked them MANY times to fix this and get rid of their trash, but they have not. We have even visited the inn and talked to people face to face, been told the problem would be resolved, and saw NO CHANGE. I am fed up with having a hotel's worth of garbage blow into my yard, making ME look like the trashy one. This hotel is pathetic. They have no right to be upset with any messiness of the properties around them, when they can't even contain their own trash from becoming everyone else's problem. Get your act together. We've been talking lately about carting it out FOR your sorry ass, and sending you a bill. At this point, just pay me and I WILL TAKE OUT YOUR DAMN TRASH FOR YOU on my own trailer since you thought leaving it to scatter all over the neighborhood was professional and appropriate. I stayed here on business last week. As Comfort Inns go, this one is above average. My room was clean and well maintained. The TV was a newer model with excellent channel selection. The staff were all helpful and very pleasant. My only complaint is the breakfast. A typical hotel free buffet with over microwaved eggs and a pancake maker that produces rubbery and inedible discs of ???, All I wanted was toast and coffee but they don't have bread. Who does not have bread for toast? The attendant said they just have bagels and English muffins. Overall a good overnighter and I'd certainly stay again... But go buy a loaf of bread! read more

We stayed here over 4th of July weekend and it was very nice. We got a suite because we have two kids and I wanted a bigger room with more than one vanity and the extra space. There was also a microwave and a mini fridge in the room. The hotel is very clean and apparently recently remolded this year. The rooms were very clean and not noisy at all. The staff was friendly and greeted everyone as they came in the doors and helpful when I called them about things to do. My kids were a fan of the indoor pool, and the free breakfast in the morning. They had a nice layout for breakfast sausage, eggs, muffins, cold milk, cereal, waffles, etc...Vending machines with the ice machines had any type of soda or candy you may be craving. It is right across the street from a wal mart and a city market and a loaf and jug gas station. The only negative things I have from our trip are as follows: The direct TV was a little slow in loading, especially at night while trying to keep the kids entertained before bed but no big deal. We were on the 3rd floor and the Wi-Fi signal was very very low so we could not use the ipad to search for local stuff to do, because the signal was so weak. I am never a fan of hotel coffee but there is a little local coffee place just a block away that serves really good coffee and has a drive through and there is also a starbucks across the street at the city market if you are not a fan of hotel coffee like me. I would definitely stay here again. Their rates are much better than the Holiday Inn and with the remodel this is a nice place to stay. read more

Our stay was fine, exactly what you'd expect, with a clean neat room and all you'd expect for overnight. I accidentally left an item and they found and held it for me until I was through the next week. Price was about what you would expect. Breakfast was a kiosk with an assortment of items. Super impressed, had a seriously great value for money room, far above expectations. Not that it would have made a difference but we where upgraded to a room with a jet tub. Very friendly check-in and a fair breakfast as far as hotels go - but overall a wonderful surprise, and a very comfortable room and king size bed was offered - I would stay there again anytime. Arrived late and stayed here prior to going up to crested butte. The front staff was very nice. They upgraded our room to a larger room after seeing that the room wasn't large enough to put a rollaway. The bigger room was only that, bigger. Old beds and furnishings. Everything is being remodeled and workers everywhere. Saw the breakfast items and just left. The pool and hot tub both were closed which disappointed the kids. I'm sure the place will be better once remodeling is complete. Hope the plan on doing something to the rooms too. read more

Decent hotel. The hallways are a bit old and frightening to look at (less hideous and dated carpet might help) but the rooms themselves were nice and the staff was friendly. I'll never understand why Comfort Inn has window shades that don't close all the way; that is a huge annoyance. I reserved three rooms for our annual hunting trip. One of the rooms is advertised a suite with living room, of course it costs more money. I prepaid for all the rooms several months in advance, big mistake. Upon arrival, checked in at the front desk and went up to my "Suite". Turns out it is just a regular room with a little more space from the beds to the adjoining wall. I inquired at the front desk, they had to call a manager who is not on site. The manager tried to sell me that the picture on the website shows one room, I pointed our that it is says in the description one bedroom suite with living room. The manager stuck with the picture on the website, I pointed out that the picture does not show a bathroom and there is one just like in the description. This is a classic case of bait and switch. They offered to refund my money for the room, which would have left for of our group there and two of us looking for a room in a crowed town due to hunting season. Received no compensation for this fraud. Watch out they will cheat you too. read more
