An excellent restaurant service is available here bordering on posh but not ridiculously expensive…read morethe decor is traditional and the service is extremely professional. The tiger prawns and the sirloin steak are so good I just can't bring myself to order anything else if I'm hungry! During the summer there is a delightful outdoor section round the back. Set in a residential area you almost feel as if you are having an intimate meal in an old friends back garden. Would reccommend this as a good birthday outing establishment for all Muswell Hill Billys and passers through.

The best reviewed B&B in Europe (Tripadvisor), and with very good reason!…read more My husband and I stayed with James and Janice in 2004 after we found their bed and breakfast online. We stayed there for ten days while we looked for our own apartment in central London, but we were so enamored with the neighborhood and James and Janice that we ended up renting a house right across the park from them in Southgate! The B&B is very homey, extremely clean, and James and Janice will cook you a beautiful complete English breakfast in the morning, along with numerous other goodies available all day long. They always have free snacks, chips, etc available, and they love having tea or a beer with their guests at the end of the day. They'll give you any information you might need for your trip, and the Underground that goes right to all the major sites in London has a station at the end of their street. Very convenient, welcome, spacious, relaxing, and much better priced than a hotel in central London. Book early though, they are full every night! (They are actually so nice, they've been known to give up their own bedroom and sleep on their sofabed, just so they can welcome the occasional couple on their anniversary or other people who are on a special trip and couldn't book a room in time or afford an expensive hotel in the city center) We adore James and Janice, who became our dear friends for life. We stay with them for a week every year, and they're always happy to host the countless friends they've made all over the world. I am so thankful that we stumbled upon their website and met these amazing people. James ended up being my husbands best man at our wedding in Italy!!!

The National has off street parking which is great. We were greeted by the receptionist who asked us to wait in the foyer whilst our rooms were prepared, we had about 20 minute wait which I don't mind but it's perhaps a bit lax considering check out 10.30 am and we had arrived at 5pm, I would have thought that were plenty of time for the rooms to be cleaned but obviously not! Our room was basic but comfortable, there was clean bedding the bed was comfy, but there was quite a lot of dust around the place. There are 2 toilets along the hall which are shared between about 10 rooms. One of the toilets was, let's say dirty, when we arrived and it wasn't cleaned during our stay. Breakfast was served in the dining room, there was cereal and juice available when we arrived, we were offered toast, tea, coffee etc and full English breakfast. There was nothing full about this breakfast, it was one piece of bacon, one egg some beans and a sausage that was fried to death! They did accommodate a request for a bacon sandwich although managed to mess this up, it was dry toast with minimal bacon in it. On the plus side the hotel staff were very accommodating to our noisy rabble on return from the gig and there didn't seem to be any complaints about noise! Not a completely horrendous experience and given it's a lot cheaper than many other hotels in London I would probably go back, but they could do with a bit of a scrub and a lick of paint!

Upon arrival at the hotel the pleasent receptionist said that we must wait for 10 minutes whilst they sorted our room. "No Fkin worries gorgeous" I screemed at him. As long as we can drink gin im happy. So we did.... After 20 minutes we were shown to our digs. We have room 18. It has a lovely view over the car park. An ideal for any car enthusiast, such as myself. It also conveniently has a bed, tv, kettle and a sink that when used causes a sewage smell to waft up the shower plug hole. This place really does have it all !!! The rooms at best could be described as grimey. Ours came with complimentary boogies smeared over most of the surfaces. Breakfast was free with the room and served between 7-9. A slighty sad affair made amusing by the curvature of my small sausage. But this place is dirt dirt cheap. At 67 quid for a double its at least 50 quid cheaper than the local competition. So I may return !

We had a some of the Sunday roast while having a good catch up. They only start serving at 1pm,but ... ohh ... it was great. We both had the vegetarian option which came with nicely roasted veg, gravy, Yorkshire pudding and the veggie roast was a nice mushroom/nuts/cauliflower mixture in a fluffy pastry. After that we moved away from the table to a super confi sofa near a real fireplace. The place was busy with loads of young families and their friends. Very relaxing, but still busy atmosphere.

It sits on a corner of Green Lanes, halfway between Manor House and Turnpike Lane. It has a wide selection of real ales and lagers on tap such as the much sought after Staropramen, and my favorite, the blond Leffe. They also serve food from the bar with a modern menu, fairly priced and with large servings. This is a place where you can happily wile away a few hours of the night or day in deep armchairs, and then return to the fray refreshed and revived. You might say the Salisbury is more time machine than pub, it has awards on show celebrating its level preservation and an array of stuffed animals which were most likely bagged in 1908. Meet your Dad there for Sunday lunch, its a rare find you won't forget.
