A day-trip to the north of Galicia had us wandering around town, with some time to kill. After a…read morenight at a feria in a nearby town [1], a 6am wake-up call, a 3 hour car ride, and some marathon window-shopping, caffeine sounded like an excellent idea.
Why did we stop for coffee in a shop that also served ice cream? No idea, but let's say that we failed the will-power test. About 10 minutes after finishing our coffee, we were squabbling as though we were 7 year olds over which flavors to share. I chose turrón, he chose vanilla. (That's compromise for you.)
One spoonful of this ice cream, and any figment of disagreement or fears of flavor contamination disappeared. The ice cream was rich, smooth, and creamy. The flavors were of the perfect intensity, especially the turrón, which had little bits of the Jijona variety interspersed in the ice cream. The flavor was so accurate that it was literally turrón in ice cream form.
A small cup set us back about 2.75 euro or so, which is fairly standard for one of these storefronts along the water.
