He said his card wasn't being read, when in fact, he was having a hard time reading the digital lettering that danced by requesting his zip code. I'm glad I was there to help, because it didn't seem as if anyone inside noticed and the lettering was tricky to read as bright as it was. But, if you are in a hurry, here are some tips to help you: 1. You can use a debit card, but if do, answer "NO" when it asks if it is a debit card. It can only process cards that the pump thinks are credit cards. It will save you a trip inside to the attendant who will tell you the same thing. 2. Some of the pumps don't give receipts, so you can use your phone to get an image of how much you used instead of having to go inside and having the attendant print you a receipt. 3. When using a card at the pump, it may take a long time to "authorize" since they don't have an internet connection other than via satellite, so on cloudy days, it may take nearly a minute (long enough for the attendant to see me standing there waiting and walk out to the pump to explain it.) Everything works, and the gas is just as good as any other, but you are dealing with an old station and the quirks that go with it. I will give credit to the attendant in the small shop (the sell tobacco, candy, ice, and gas for home grilling) for having a good attitude and being helpful to make the transaction less frustrating.
