I hardly ever write YELP reviews but we used this company to help my parents with a Reverse Mortgage. There's alot of bad information out there, and the process can be a little scary. A friend of mine highly recommended I talk to Tom Russo at Coltrain Mortgage. Tom came to our parents home in Ronkonkoma, explained the process to us and our parents, the pros and cons, and patiently answered all of our questions. Purchasing a home as a first time home owner with my significant other was made a breeze while working with Maria. Maria was very helpful, kind and made sure to help us the best way that she could have. I was guaranteed that she would be able to high my credit score with a few adjustments on my end and we were able to do so . My credit score became higher than my boyfriends with all the help from Maria. I purchased my first apartment few years ago and got my first mortgage from this company, and it was the worst decision I have ever made. I neglected to do my homework and didn't talk to other banks, the only person I spoke with was Michael Cymbala in this company. At the time, the interest rate was very low but I realized afterwards that I got a much higher interest rate than other companies could have offered me. That's fine. The worst experience was that at our closing date, Michael told me that he calculated everything wrong, so there was a $3500 fee that needs to be paid by someone. Since no one was responsible for that $3500, we couldn't move on with the closing until I decided to just write a check even though my lawyer was strongly against it. I did that because I had spent more than 6 months on searching for a home and didn't want to just walk away from the deal. However, I am just very upset about using Coltrain. If you are looking for a mortgage, I will suggest you use other big banks such as Chase, Wells Fargo...etc, unless you don't mind getting any surprise bills. I recently bought my second home and I used online broker Sebonic Financial. I had a very smooth closing and I got very low interest rate 2.85% without paying for any points. The appraisal and mortgage underwriting process were completed in two weeks, so we ended up closing earlier. Besides, the most important thing is that there was no surprise fee at closing. Since Covid pandemic, all the mortgage application can be done online easily, so I strongly suggest people shop around and give online broker a try, such as Sebonic Financial or Quicken Loan. I got very good rate from both of them without even negotiation. read more

Cotrain funding was reccomended to me from a family member I was referred to Tom Russo for a mortgage for my new house. It was my first house and I was very nervous about dealing with a mortgage broker because I never did it before.. And I heard a lot of nightmares about mortgage brokers.. But not Tom Russo... He took his time with me and explain to me everything answered all my questions whenever I needed him even if it was at 9 PM at night...
