Didn't see wildlife like bats but saw their presence in the black goop on the walls. Apparently, people used to cut off a piece of the rock formation as a souvenir. I booked the ladder tour for my husband and I for his birthday. Adam was our tour guide. We had a great time! I am claustrophobic and let Adam know and he was very understanding and encouraging. He definitely helped me feel at ease and I was able to finish the entire tour. Adam is very passionate about caving and it really shows. We've been in multiple caves and on tours so I wasn't sure if this would be anything special. It absolutely was and I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few activities we got to do that I haven't ever experienced before like playing "drums" on stalactites and "painting" on the wall with a flashlight. We learned a lot about the history of the cave and heard some interesting and fun stories. We also got to explore a little bit on our own here and there off to the sides of the path which my husband really enjoyed. The ladder part is at the end and it was a lot of fun and almost like an obstacle course. We had a great time here and I'm really glad we came! read more

Priced well. Knowledgeable staff. Staff that goes above and beyond. I was not able to complete the tour (hahaha, I could barely start it). Hoping to conquer claustrophobia with vertigo on a hot and humid day was probably not the best idea. However, I was told I made it further than many ). After turning around and heading back seemingly after 30 plus or minus steps, the staff was extremely kind. Dia, brought me a chair to sit it by the AC unit, offered water and gave me a book to read while waiting for the other person in my party. All the staff was charismatic and kind. I am hoping to go back and try it again- probably not any time soon due to my own "issues." :-D. But I would definitely and still recommend that you go and check it out. read more

Fun tour of cave with some good history. Good that the cost supports back the park. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The path is very accessible so it isn't hard to walk. The lighting is great showing off great cave features and photos to take. Just no flash Although cool, I would say I've been to nicer caves, but if this is your first cave visit it is probably worth it. Enjoy! read more

Arik Young, our tour guide, made the tour interesting. He told us stories and made multiple reference related jokes. I would definitely recommend doing the regular cave tour. There are many stairs and it is dark in most spots but he warns and points out the spots to be cautious of. This is definitely a to do when coming to Arizona. read more

Should you have any familiarity with the Disneyland ride The Jungle Cruise, and enjoy the humor present in those employees, you will love the Colossal Cave tour guides. Both times I have done the classic cave tour, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself because of my entertaining guides. It's made me want to come back for the other tours available, which sell out very quickly. Don't be concerned about ability to complete the classic tour, there are no restraints on physical abilities to be able to walk through. Make sure to hydrate plenty before, as this is something that can affect your experience exponentially. After you're done, make sure to get the prickly pear lemonade at the little cafe and check out the gift shop. Colossal Cave offers wonderful guided cave tours which takes about 45 minutes, I believe 300 steps throughout, a fairly mild elevation on a stone paved, well lite path. Enjoy historical tales mixed with geology lessons. The cute snack bar offers a variety of snacks, hot dogs, pizza, and French fries... Arizona Teas and other goodies & drinks. Appreciate the well cleaned bathrooms. The views from the cave entrance are spectacular views and where you'll find a well furnished gift shop with something for everyone. I came to Arizona with my siblings for the first time,This tour was awesome for our last day here! :( The way up there os super easy and check in is in the gift shop. Super easy cave adventure but there are some other cool ones to do that are more adventurous! Our tour guide Eric was cool, he is well educated with facts and has good jokes! Eric had to fight off a giant man eating tarantula that caught a child and spun in a web! Daniel was a great tour guide. I've been to other caves in the US and they all kind of look similar but they each have different stories. I learned a lot of history about this cave. This is a warmer cave that stays around 70 degrees. Only time I legit got scared was being under the fault line and seeing it. I'm from California and earthquakes are real! read more

My fiance and I had a great time at the Colossal Cave. Arik was our guide, and he truly saved the day! I had briefly set our newborn son on a nearby rock. When I turned back around, he was gone! Arik personally traversed the entire cave system, taking appx. 9.5 hours., in order to find our son. When he returned, he brought us the news that our son had taken up the pickaxe in the mine. 4/8/2026 (noon tour with Eric). Our group was among only six groups ever to see the silverback gorilla at the lowest level, near the open shaft. I highly recommend keeping your iPhone camera on the lowest light setting possible and making sure you are at the front of the tour. RIP Kyle. read more

I want to rate this experience higher because the tour itself was great. However, I was seriously disturbed when a bunch of tourists were being recommended to go on the nature trails in 101 F degree (38 C) afternoon temperatures after they showed up wanting to purchase tour tickets and were told all tours were sold out. Every year people have to be rescued from the trails because of the heat and the locals, ESPECIALLY workers at the cave entrance, should know better than to put people into harm's way. Our guide, Everett, is the king of dad jokes, but that's what makes the tour so enjoyable along with his wealth of knowledge about the cave, house it was found, the owner, the animals found inside, and much more. Definitely worth a visit. I took the standard cave tour but they offer a more extensive tour where you explore parts of the cave that require you to be physically fit and not claustrophobic. There is a self guided nature tour starting outside the gift shop as well, which takes you to a little relaxing garden and also for a walk around property with signs explaining the names of plants you see. Be sure to check out the gift shop, especially if you like rocks. There is also a little convenience stand that sells food and drink and even alcohol. The soft serve is a big hit! I'd definitely recommend this place if you are visiting Tucson. It's about 15 miles outside the city limits and in Vail,AZ. read more

The cave tour itself is very tame but they do have other tours for anyone who likes to explore more adventurous areas of the cave, that involves more physical activity than walking and ducking out of ragged formations. No issues for anyone who is vertically challenged. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. The site has a gift shop, it's where you check-in for the tour. You can buy tickets online and veterans have a discount, just show them your military ID card when checking in. They have ample parking as well just be cautious when entering since the road tends to narrow down as you make your way to the parking area. The cave is warm, so I suggest taking the tour during fall or winter time. Lastly, remember to tip your tour guide either with cash or through their QR codes conveniently by the entrance of the cave. read more

Two of my friends and I did the Ladder Tour yesterday and were lucky enough to be the only ones who had signed up for that time slot. Jaye was our tour guide and led us on a 1.5 hour sojourn into a literal bat cave out there in Vail, AZ. The $60 pp was money well-spent as we learned so much about Colossal Cave, stalagmites, stalactites, bats, the Civil Conservation Corps, and more while traversing six floors beneath the surface. The temperature of the cave was about 70 degrees and quite humid, something that my friends and I were surprised about since other caves in other places we've been to are usually cool and dry. I thought this tour was excellent. As this particular tour's name states, there are ladders that you have to climb up, about 8 of them (I lost count), some in very tight spaces. If you would like to do a shorter tour that is more kid-friendly, there is the Classic Cave tour, 45 minutes without the ladders. Don't forget to tip your guide! read more

Toured the Cave today with our guide Arik! He is such a Packers fan and dedicated to not loosing anyone in his group he left a trail of cheese curds on his way in incase those Bear fans got lost. He also pointed out that normally he paints his self green and yellow so he is easily spotted during the tour but had Thanksgiving dinner plans and so we had to follow the AXE aroma this day instead. , True dedication. It ain't easy being cheesy but Arik makes it look easy!!! Thank you for all the dad jokes and an amazing tour. We were not expecting to see gorillas but happy we booked at the right time. My wife & I visit Tucson a few times a year (parents live here), and we have not visited because we have visited Carlsbad NP. We thought after that we were good on caves. Our son visited with GF and they really wanted to go, so we went. We did not make reservations (middle of week), but would suggest you do so you do not have to wait for later tours. There is a nature trail if you arrive early, also a nice giftshop and waiting area. Clean restrooms are also available, better visit before tour as you will underground for close to an hour. Our Tour Guide was (Eric), he was awesome !!! Very informative, safety conscious, and mixed humor with history and cave facts. We enjoyed our tour very much and glad we visited. The tour has steps (some uneven) and some areas are a little tight, but even a big guy like me was good to go. Definitely recommend !!! read more

Wonderful 'Classic Cave' tour with Adam. Brought a friend who was visiting from out of state, at a time when Tucson temperatures were north of 100F. Wonderful way to spend a portion of the day, with the cave at a static 71 degrees. The classic cave tour is something I haven't done in 30+ years, and it was still just as impressive as it was when I was a younger man. The walk is fairly easy, and all three of us were in flip flops. Adam was our tour guide (on his birthday) and he was fantastic. Knowledgeable, polite, encouraged questions and provided history and really cool trivia points along the entire tour. I have taken many tours in my life and Adam was the best of the best. Such a fun atmosphere. Every employee we walked past welcomed us and was so kind and friendly. The tour guide, Arik, was so fun, patient and kind. I loved that he was so willing to answer all my curious kids questions and throw in appropriate humor in there, yet still make it enjoyable for everyone else on the tour (I hope the people behind us enjoyed themselves haha). Attended the "regular" tour in the morning and was pleasantly pleased with the information, detail, and explanation of the history of the Colossal Cave park. Arik, our tour guide was a delight - his energy was great, and seemed genuinely interested and invested in the caves and the conservation and history. His smell was delightful in comparison to the bat guano. The tour itself was approximately an hour and a half but feels incredibly quick! There are a couple of displays with artifacts that are interesting. I wish there was a little more time to explore and take the caves in- but overall well worth the trip. read more
