I was welcomed at the entry desk, upstairs from the entry from a free parking lot (and only a couple of blocks from the model railroad museum). I had specifically gone because of an exhibit about the team of French illustrators whose work for Harpers Weekly more than 150 years ago helped document the movement west, it was very impressive - I included several pictures even though this is the last week of the display. I am glad I stopped here and I think the people of Greeley have done a great job sharing and preserving their heritage!

This village is huge and definitely can spend a whole day here. My friend and I randomly stumbled upon Centennial Village during the Greeley Stampede- the entrance fee was free! Normally they charge, so maybe it's a special promotion during the Stampede. You should definitely go in if you are here this week for the event. Family friendly environment with fresh air and many things to look at. Volunteers are friendly and welcoming. Some of my favorites were going to the gun shop and seeing historic guns, going into different houses and seeing the gadgets and tools people used back then, and learning about the important people of Greeley. By the way, the village is 8 acres- Be ready to walk a lot!

Let it not be said that a small museum cannot have great impact. While this is far from the Louvre,…read morethe carefully-curated collection here explicitly showcases art that isn't necessarily as widely visible as more 'classical' mediums and forms. The cultural impact of the works presented lends a gravity often diminished by less sincere studies of different cultures' art, and the impact of that visibility on awareness is a massive equalizer. That out of the way, whoever does the curation here has an excellent eye. I spent far longer than I'd expected in the reasonably small museum examining a myriad of intricate details on all kinds of pieces, fro pottery to furniture to paintings and I don't regret a second of it. The aesthetic of the exhibits is all over the place, but that's part of the charm of the museum, and what keeps it from being a massive blur of painting after statue after painting, as larger institutions can become. I look forward to seeing what has rotated out and back in again when next I visit.

There is so much to do and explore here! The music section is definitely a favorite as you get to test out so many instruments! Everything was well maintained (minus one or two exhibits that weren't functioning at the time). The toddler area is great for the little ones to be separate. Personally, I was absolutely stoked for the shadow wall - it's just a fun/silly thing to do. When we ventured upstairs we didn't realize there was a theater until a staff member asked if we were there to see the show. Since we had to get going, I asked if I could peak in real quick to check it out and he was totally fine with it. It looks so cool! We will definitely be back to catch a show in the future.

It's cool and refreshing inside the mines, and they're full of history, right down to the wooden shafts that still have numbers painted on them from the miners of 1800s. You will learn about mining history and how harrowing and challenging it was, and see the actual tools they used, and how techniques developed over time. You will see shafts and tunnels you cannot explore but remain from days of old that inspire the imagination. You will also hear some silly ghost stories, and even see how UV light illuminates the rocks and minerals in the mines. Interested in history, gold, geology, or mining? Even if you aren't, take this tour anyway! It's well worth it, and the guides do a great job.

The Loveland Museum is small, but mighty, with a surprising number of functions packed into a…read morelimited space. The museum was founded in 1937 by local author and mountain guide, Harold Dunning, who had begun to collect historical memorabilia around 1919. Today it is an accredited art and history museum with a vibrant schedule of events and classes. Half of the museum covers the history of the area, highlighting Great Western Sugar (sugar beets), which was the major local employer in the first half of the 20th century. There is a small, but interesting gift shop and a basement auditorium, but the other key function of the museum is art exhibits of local, regional, and national interest. The north wing of the museum is a large gallery space. The auditorium and mezzanine are also used for art display. The museum has presented very well-curated exhibits over the years and I often enjoy making the long drive from Denver to get my art fix.

They also have an annual Day of the Dead exhibit created by community members and local artists. There is a permanent exhibit called 'Front Range Rising' which discusses the history of Longmont. You can see many of these past exhibits in a virtual tour on their website! In addition to the exhibits, there are movies, classes, performances and walking tours. The classes and movies relate in some way to the art exhibits. For example, an exhibition called 'Build: Design & Create with LEGO' was connected with the short films created by the legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. During the Picasso exhibit you were able to take a class to learn how to create a Picasso style portrait. A recent update as of July 2025 is that the galleries will be closed until Fall 2026 while the Longmont Museum has a major expansion of its building. There will be even more galleries and a larger children's area! While the galleries will be closed they are still planning to have events in the auditorium and courtyard. They will also continue their educational programs.
