Stayed here last week for a universal studios trip. 10/10 great stay. Check-in lady was super friendly and fun to chat with. The room was spotless, king bed comfy, and a great hot shower with ample pressure (increasingly hard to find in hotels so THANK YOU). Most of the furniture is 50 years old but in good condition and charmingly nostalgic. Lot of options for storage between closet, dresser, and wardrobe. Room has a mini fridge and lobby has a microwave if you need it. Parking wasn't a problem - 25 spots for 30 rooms. Area feels safe enough for LA. Lot of options for restaurants around tho we didn't wander. This will be our go-to for future universal studio trips. Thank you! :D

Most horrible hotel experience ever! The cost was already high but what isn't in Cali. Checked in and got our key, went to our room to get settled in and use the restroom that had pee all over it. Called the front to have housekeeping come clean it. The staff came and I noticed the room phone and TV didn't work either so instead they changed our room. Was happy about this but the next room had hair strands in the bathtub and the phone in the new room doesn't work either but whatever. This is what got me. If you want any kind of sleep, you have to have a room on the top floor bcs the walls are paper thin and you can hear every thing. Was up all night, so what's the point of a hotel room? Also, the beds only have sheets, no comforter so I was cold all night. Recommend not staying here!

The view from the room.

Dirty and smelly room with dirty stained sheets. This is the worst room that I've ever stayed in and they would not refund us.

The Garland is a boutique hotel that has retro vibes of old Hollywood, maybe from the 60's and…read more70's. The rooms and amenities are all updated however, and if you want to be close to Universal Studios or Studio City in general, this hotel is excellent. They even have a free trolley that runs hourly to/from Universal Studios and a LA bus terminal. Our 3-night stay during Memorial Day was great - comfortable rooms, beds, and friendly service. Rooms had plenty of storage space and charing ports, and wifi is free and fast. They also have an agenda of daily activities like group exercise classes, LA hot dog/taco nights, and classic movies next to the pool. Their main restaurant, Front Yard offers a daily breakfast buffet and ala carte brunch, lunch, and dinner. The only reason for the -1 stars is that their AC is an older, in-wall unit that gets loud when turned on. Outdoor Parking also isn't cheap at $50/night with in/out privileges but that may be typical for the area.

Starting off, when we checked into our room, they had us in a 1 king room, when we had originally…read morerequested a 2 queen room. We had 4 people traveling and 4 people were not going to fit into the 1 king room. When we asked to be switched, they offered us a roll in bed, which was the size of a twin bed, would not fit two adults. When we got up to our room, there was hair on the wall between the shower and the toilet, making us feel like it was not cleaned thoroughly. Our electric car was charging on site and we were running back and forth doing things for the wedding, setting up, etc. No one informed us that there would be an additional charge if we were still parked there after our car was done charging. $58 later and when we mentioned that in our review through the hotel, they said they'd comp our food bill, which was 2 drinks and a fruit bowl, probably $20+. This was disappointing to my mom, who went beyond her means to stay on site for the wedding. This was completely disappointing as we were traveling for a wedding that took place on site. 2 of us were luckily able to stay in the luxury suite which was reserved for the groom get ready room (2 nights). If those stars hadn't aligned, we would not have been able to sleep comfortably in our 1 king room. Also, the suite does not have a microwave in it, we had to request one to be brought up, which I found unconventional. My cousin had their wedding here for how much money my aunt spent between the suite, a bride get ready room, and just the general costs of a wedding, it was disappointing to hear she had a difficult experience here as well. She mentioned that they pulled her away from her son's wedding reception to place her credit card down for incidentals. Why hadn't that happened beforehand? They had her card on file already between all the rooms she booked, so the fact that they took her away from this once in a lifetime experience is ridiculous. She also mentioned that they asked not only for her card info but for her ID. She told them she was not going out of her way to find that when she didn't have it on hand and they were in the middle of celebrating. Needless to say, it was an unfortunate experience this time around. I've been here before and didn't experience the lack of professionalism we experienced this time. The valet service and the staff that supports with luggage were very helpful and kind. It saddens me to have to write such a poor review for such a beautiful place. I have recommended this place to people in the past for general lodging. However, for weddings or any big event, this is not the best of places to host.

Amarano cured me of that in the LA area. There's simply no reason to look. Best in the area by a mile, and the mile is not close. It works for everything. Passing through on the way to somewhere else. Camped out for Universal and the tourist machinery parked on its doorstep. Or running broader Valley and LA operations from a room that actually lets you sleep before the next day's campaign. It flexes to whatever you need it to be. The design gets the balance right, which almost nobody does. Just enough old Hollywood kitsch to nod at where it's standing, and modern in every way that matters once you're actually trying to enjoy the room. It respects the history without cosplaying it. The staff are the thing, though. In a town that treats service as an inconvenience, these people are genuinely, unsettlingly good at it. The bar is a real bar. The food is perfectly acceptable, which in this context reads as a miracle. The valet knows what they are doing. And if you somehow tire of the premises, there's good food and drink within walking distance. I have been back several times. I have no intention of scouting the competition anymore. There is no need. Five stars. Easily.

Comfy robes for use in rooms. a few things were missing though (soap, slippers...so odd) coffee bar in room. nice table and seating area in room. enjoyed the pool one day...there were some very well mannered small kids in the pool so i opted for jacuzzi. it was nothing fancy but still nice. I called in advance and was told half of the rooms type I booked came with bath tubs and half didn't. I requested one with a bathtub and the person over the phone said they would note it in the reservation. I forgot to ask when I checked in and was a bit disappointed when I got to my room that there was no bathtub. If half of the room types had bathtub, I would think it would have been an easy accommodation request. The hotel is located within a 10 minute walk to Universal Studios/City Walk so that was very convenient. They also have a shuttle that comes every 30 minutes or so but the walk is so easy to do that I would recommend that. The hotel lobby and conference rooms were very nice, including the small break out rooms used for the conference. I didn't like that you have to be a Hilton member to get free Wifi but the conference came with its own wifi password so it didn't affect me. The King Corner Room was very spacious and had a separate sitting area. The room seemed a bit dated. The sofa looked very worn, like something you would see at a college dorm, so I avoided it. It did have very large windows with a beautiful view. No robes/slippers included in the room. Although I stayed for 3 nights, housekeeping only came one morning. They have a Starbucks in the lobby that is open until 11am daily. Staff was very friendly. It was a big conference (about 200 people I think) and staff did an excellent job with catered breakfast and lunch serving that many people at once. Not a luxury hotel by any standard, but for a work conference hotel, it was good. And the 10 minute walk to Universal Studies/City Walk is very convenient if your purpose is to visit those places since you won't have to pay for Uber/Lyft/parking for those places.

HORRIBLE VALET SERVICE -- SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!…read more Check-in was great, but unfortunately, the valet service completely ruined our experience. We stayed here for the Hollywood Bowl event on 10/09, and the way we were treated was absolutely unacceptable. I paid for overnight valet parking, but when we returned around midnight after the concert, I was told the valet parking area was flooded and that the hotel had overbooked its parking. The valet attendant told me I would have to park a block away and explained that it was out of his hands. He assured me that the manager would issue me a refund since I was unable to use the parking I had paid for. I agreed, trusting that the hotel would make things right. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The next morning, I contacted the manager, Ted, and his attitude was absolutely disgusting. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he laughed at me and refused to issue a refund. I had paid a $100 deposit and received only $45 back, despite not parking my car overnight as agreed. How does that make any sense? I called back twice to try to resolve the issue, and I even recorded the calls because of how unprofessional the situation became. The calls ended with him hanging up on me, and after that, they recognized my number and refused to answer. What makes this situation even worse is that I am handicapped. Being told at midnight that I had to drive and park a block away because the hotel had overbooked its parking was incredibly inconvenient and unacceptable. The hotel failed to provide the parking I paid for, yet I was still left fighting to get my money back. This was handled terribly from beginning to end. The valet situation was not my fault, the overbooking was not my fault, and I should not have had to chase management for a fair refund. A manager should be resolving customer complaints, not laughing at guests, hanging up on them, and refusing to take responsibility. Absolutely unprofessional customer service. The check-in staff may have been great, but the valet and management experience left a terrible impression. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially anyone who expects accessible accommodations, accountability, or basic respect. Save yourself the headache and spend your money somewhere else. A hotel that takes your money but refuses to take responsibility when things go wrong does not deserve your business.

Although there are spaces for them, so maybe costs are cut here with less staff. Staff are friendly when you approach them. Parking is private in an underground garage and it's $10. Pretty pricey if you are here for many days, but it is what it is. Wifi is free with room, although it was slow for me so I just used my hotspot. Right now there is construction happening across the street. Other than that, it's a very chill and quiet relaxing spot. Good to be at especially for Universal Studios, under a 20 minute drive during morning rush traffic. I think it's only 2-3 miles away. Location is prime if you want to walk: Several restaurants, shops, and bus/train station is a block or so away. We got the continental breakfast every morning. It had a waffle & mini-waffle making station. 4 kinds of cereals & oatmeal. A bread station with breads, bagels & english muffins. Muffins, yogurts & microwaveable breakfast burritos. A warmer with pork sausage links & cooked eggs. And a drink station with different juices. (very pleased with all the options) We loved how close of a drive this hotel was to universal. The staff were all very friendly. The parking was free and never packed, felt safe and clean, and it was next to the elevator with carts ready to take up bags. Minor things we weren't fans of. The TV did not have a lot of choices/channels. The ice machine on our floor was broken. There was an exposed hole/wires in the ceiling of our floor. The pool was small and very cold because it doesn't get a lot of sun during th day & there was no hottub. There was no shuttle. They didn't clean our room (and we didn't have a sign on the door) so we think they may not clean every day. The bites were severe enough that she had to seek medical treatment, was prescribed antibiotics and prescription anti-itch medication, and we incurred additional medical expenses because of this stay. We immediately reported the issue and were moved to another room. However, by that point our confidence was gone. We inspected and partially dismantled the beds in the new room ourselves before unpacking because we no longer trusted the hotel's inspection process. Fortunately, we found no evidence of bed bugs there. What was even more disappointing was the hotel's response. Despite the medical treatment, the disruption to our trip, and the significant stress this caused, management offered only a 50% refund for our three-night stay. The manager, Andrew, refused to provide his last name or any direct contact information and referred us to Best Western's national customer service department. After several days of waiting, corporate informed us that only the local general manager--the same person who had already declined to resolve the matter to --had the authority to make any decision. We were effectively sent in a circle with no meaningful resolution. Beyond the financial loss, this experience caused days of unnecessary stress, uncertainty, and frustration. A hotel can have an unexpected problem, but how it responds defines its commitment to guests. In our experience, there was a lack of accountability, poor communication, and little concern for the health and well-being of its customers. We cannot recommend staying here based on both the bed bug incident and the way it was handled afterward.
