This place is such a gem! Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan and just a few minutes drive from downtown Manistique, the Colonial is a throwback to yesteryear. Vintage rooms with modern upgrades that are clean and a very reasonable price. We enjoyed chatting with Mike in the office and meeting his ferocious guard dogs (only kidding, they are sweet and adorable). Also check out his awesome Cadillac collection out front! We feel lucky to have found this place and can't wait to return for our next visit!

    Nice beds!

Perfect little get away. Extremely close to the beach. Great rooms for a low price. Way better than the other over priced motels in the area. Outdoor area very well kept up with and clean. Mike in the office is super nice and friendly! They also offer toothbrushes and shaving cream in case you forgot yours which is very welcoming and friendly. Will be coming back and letting everyone know to stay here!

We spent 2 very comfortable nights here, and highly recommend it. The room was super clean, very spacious, and comfortable. The motel is located just across the street from Lake Michigan, with easy access to Manistique's very pleasant boardwalk path along the lake to the lighthouse. The motel is dog-friendly, with a small one-time fee (to fund the extra-cleaning they do to make it super clean for the next guest after the dog). Mike in the office is welcoming and helpful, with info on restaurants and the area. He offers guests coffee at 7 am, and toiletries if you forgot something. Mike has a great sense of humor and has fun with his roadway sign. His adorable dachshunds in the office are a sweet bonus. We'd happily stay here again next time we're in Manistique.

This place is amazing. A perfect old school motel with lots of character that is clean and with updates amenities. The owner Mike is wonderful and super friendly and accommodating. We had a wonderful experience and will absolutely stay here again!

Vintage rooms but very very clean. Bed and pillows were great. Slept very well. Towels were brand new. AC worked great.

I wanted to tell other travelers that had opted for stays on the other side of the road (not on the lake) what they were missing. The host, Leo, was kind, accommodating, and easy going in all interactions from reservation to checkout. Every day we were offered for the room to be made up entirely, to receive fresh towels, or/and or to have the trash removed. Leo struck the exactly right balance in degree of service, neither pushy nor neglectful. As many others have said, the rooms are spotless. They are simply furnished but have all amenities and clearly have been kept up with meticulous care ( for example, both bathroom and bedroom as well as windows and doors had a fresh coat of paint). Every single piece in the inventory (fridge, lights, AC, etc.) worked perfectly. The spaciousness of the room, the full-size back window in addition to the even larger front window, all easy to open and with a mosquito screen, and the view out on the beautiful, natural backyard adjacent to Lake Michigan were unexpected bonuses. Traffic on the highway (#2), from which the motel is set back quite a bit, dies down in the evening and the rooms seem to be sound proof as nights were quiet and calm. There are so many things to do and see in the area, three nights were not enough. We will definitely be back, perhaps in a different season.

This was recommended by a Krist Market employee and it was not a disappointment. The room is…read morespacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable (I read reviews that the beds were hard but we didn't experience that). The bathroom was clean and everything worked well. There's a frig and tv with cable but no microwave. The heat worked well (we came at the beginning of March) and there is an air conditioning unit that can be plugged in. It is on a busy road but at night there's hardly a peep coming from it. By morning though traffic was starting, but we didn't stay in the room all day For a comfortable, non frills stay this is the place! Oh and the owner is very friendly

We stopped at a few in town, but found they were fully booked or more than we wanted to spend for one night. Then we spotted the sign for the Valley Motel. It looked just like the vintage places we had been staying at, and at $46 for two, it was right down our alley. With only six rooms we were worried they too would be sold out, but the owner was able to give us a room. And what a joy it was; clean, comfortable bed, good shower, wifi, frig, ice, microwave, nice size room, quiet: the best we had stayed at in our travels. Would reccommend it to anyone traveling the UP. Be warned, they don't take credit cards, but at that price I was quite happy to fork over the cash. If we ever take the northern route again we will be sure to book a night again at the Valley Motel.

We pull in, and a strange, M&M hoarding woman (Honestly, her house is covered in M&M Candy memorabilia) answers. We mention we saw a sign for the special and she acts like she didn't know she had this sign on her Motel's front. Well, she may not have a junior high education but we saw this as rude and she looses a star today. She agrees to $40 for the night after some bickering. This is a WIN. The rooms were outdated, but very clean and well kept. Best place for under $50 in the area I could imagine. Cable TV, 2 single beds, running water and some electricity. The shower was disgusting and hadn't been cleaned out of the fear of an STI from other patrons, who probably haven't used it in ages. She lies about the fridge, there is none. Wireless Fidelity Internets is a hot commodity up here.
