This is in reference to a preparer at H&R Block at Geo Wa Sq Shopping Center in Yorktown. My…read morehusband and I waited 50 minutes to see the guy named Henry "Lou" Smithson at H&R Block after we'd had an appointment with him for weeks. Our previous preparer was no longer available at this office and as we had gone there for many years we thought we'd try Lou. He had available appointments! We also arrived 10 minutes early for our appointment! The young lady at the desk was very professional and apologetic and went several times to check his availability. He was still with the previous client but the last time she checked he sent word to say he wouldn't be able to get to us that day and wanted us to either reschedule or leave our papers and pick them up later. He said he had to leave at 5 o'clock. We were not offered the courtesy of him coming to explain to us or offering apologies! Needless to say we were not happy customers when we left. We obviously will not go back there. I wouldn't recommend this guy to anyone!

Terrible. We walked out after an hour with the tax preparer when it became clear she did nothing…read moremore than fill out a form. I asked simple questions such as, "What are the differences between married filing separately and married filing jointly?" to which the preparer replied, "I don't know, I just fill out the questions in our software." The tax preparer couldn't find the box to enter student loan interest payments, which is a very common item. She also entered an amount into an education tax credit for which I am certain we do not qualify because 2 years ago I erroneously filled out that section and received a bill from the IRS to pay back the credit. I mentioned it was incorrect and the tax preparer replied, "we'll see if the tax software accepts it." After over an hour, all she had done was enter our W-2 information. She was still looking for that box to enter the student loan interest payments. She couldn't even answer my simple question of how much it was going to cost for me to have H&R Block complete my tax return. Finally, I was fed up and told her I didn't want to pay her an unknown amount of money to have a "professional" mess up my taxes by filling out tax software incorrectly because I can do that for free on my own. My husband and I walked out. Awful. DO NOT go to this H&R Block. In fact, if they employ this woman, DO NOT go to any H&R Block office.
