I have had the exact same issue as Tina has except I am not gonna ignore it. I will pursue. I don't take kindly to being ripped off.

    J & W Experienced Tree Services

    J & W Experienced Tree Services

Winston and his crew did a great job at my place. All the trees he suggested to remove were hollow…read moreinside and could have fallen on my house! Winston knows what he is doing and I would highly recommend his company.

Recently had trees taken down in my front & back yard. After getting four estimates, J & W offered…read morethe best price for the work. They brought a crew of about 8 men and LOTS of big equipment (multiple vehicles) so they were able to knock the job out quickly. Unlike many other tree service contractors, J&W doesn't typically use tree climbers and such. Instead they use bucket trucks to do the work. This is good from the standpoint that the job gets done quickly & affordably. However, it can also cause damage to your yard and surrounding plants. Other estimates I received were hundreds of dollars more, but involved using tree climbers in the backyard to minimize impact/ damage to the yard, fence and plants. The other contractors also allotted more time to the project (1 1/2 days) in part, because of the slower process of dropping trees with tree climbers. In order to get the big equipment into my yard, J&W had to remove my mailbox post and my front picket fence & gate. They also had to dig up some azaleas & hydrangeas, some of which didn't survive the experience. I was pleased they replaced my mailbox post & gate post when they were done, since the old posts couldn't be reused after being dug up. They even poured new concrete for the fence gate post, at no additional charge. (Originally they wanted me to replace the posts, but when I balked, they relented, reluctantly.) The J&W foreman (who never smiled by the way) asked if I was satisfied at the beginning & end of the project, and once in the middle of the project. It wasn't so much a friendly, "what else can I do for you" inquiry, but rather a, "is this okay" question. When I requested they remove a couple additional nearby low branches from a nearby tree, instead of saying, "sure, we'll cut those down too, no problem", I was met with silence. I got the impression the foreman was uncomfortable or not empowered to do much outside of the written estimate... even the littlest of things. (The two branches were only about 10 ft off the ground and part of a shrub... I ended up cutting them off myself with a handsaw.) The owner, Winston, showed up on the job site briefly, but even he was stoic and somewhat condescending, saying "we'll do what we have to, to make you happy" (the operative phrase being, "what we have to"). The day after J&W left, I found fast food garbage in the rear of the backyard (cups, bags, wrappers), and when I planted trees and shrubs a couple weeks later, I learned they only did a so-so job of grinding out the tree stumps... making replanting more challenging. I've had trees taken down in the recent past, and the contractor I last used (All Stumps Plus) was more friendly and helpful during the project... even offering to do additional things (like grinding up old nearby stumps) for little or NO additional cost. That wasn't the case with J&W. They left nearby stumps untouched -- even one that was CONNECTED TO the stump they were grinding. They never asked if I would like other stumps ground. (I would have considered a reasonable additional charge to have it done.) In conclusion, if you need trees taken down quickly and affordably, and you're NOT TOO CONCERNED about possible damage to your yard, plants or bushes, ... AND you don't anticipate making any special requests, then J&W may be a good fit for you. As for me, I don't anticipate using them again. I'd rather spend a little more to get friendlier, helpful service... with less destruction to my yard. Besides, some contractors are willing to match a competitor's price -- or come close to it.

We had two large trees requiring service, one over our driveway and one over a road. Both had us concerned that they could fall or drop heavy branches. Mark Tuttle came out and met with us, provided an estimate, explained exactly what he would do, and told us he would find a way to fit us in but that he was slammed (we appreciated the honesty!!). Since it wasn't really an emergency we told him to call us when he had time after the holidays. In mid-January, he called us with an opening, came with his bucket truck and two helpers, and carefully and professionally took down our trees (as requested), cleaned up, moved the wood away from main areas for us, and made sure we sere comfortable with what was done. His helpers were also professional and friendly, and the team even helped me with something related, answered my questions, and is back in our neighborhood today because our neighbors saw the job they did and hired him too! Above and beyond, great value, high customer service.

Everything was done as promised and at the price quoted. They worked carefully to not disturb vegetation around the tree and cleaned up the area after finishing. We initially got five estimates before deciding to use Mark. I will go straight to him for any future tree service that I might need.
