My stylist, Lucky, already canceled on me in December for a funeral, which I understood. But then in January, I rescheduled for a Wednesday, and a day later, I saw my appointment was changed in the system without anyone even telling me. When I finally got a hold of her, she said she was "on a movie set." I had specifically picked "Any Staff" when I booked so that I wouldn't have to deal with one person's schedule, so why was I being told I couldn't be seen? If you're busy on a movie set, you shouldn't be taking bookings from the public. When she finally "fitted me in" at 7 PM, the whole thing was half-assed and rushed. I didn't even get to pick my own glaze color; she just did whatever. I told her I was happy to finally get my split ends under control, and she just dismissed me and said, "everyone has split ends." I go to a salon for the experience and to feel seen, but I felt like I was just a nuisance she was trying to hurry up and finish. To make it even worse, my partner's appointment was also canceled last minute because the other stylist didn't have a babysitter. It's just constant excuses here. Then, when it was finally time to go, Lucky didn't even seem to know how to collect the payment. It was so disorganized and awkward. I still gave a 15% tip because I'm a responsible person and I value labor, but honestly, I feel like I was bamboozled. I could have stayed home and done the glaze and the cut myself for way less money and zero headache. I'm done with professional salons if this is how they treat people. I won't be back.

When I got there, I was extremely impressed with the woodsy theme they did inside. It was chic and clean and wide open and felt very inviting. The woman who did my hair was not the owner, and I'm so mad I can't think of her name, but she was soooo friendly and accommodating. I was bringing in my 4 year old son for a trim, and she was extremely good with him and did exactly what we asked for which was to just keep it nice and long with just the ends trimmed off. Next up was me. She washed my hair and the products smelled really, really amazing, and she massaged my head and neck, which was top notch. I would probably go back for the massage alone. She used all natural products on me to smooth out and comb my extremely snarly hair out and somehow magically it was detangled. So I did end up buying the shampoo, conditioner, the leave in conditioner, and the dry oil smoothing product. They are all organic! How could I not try them?! My trim was exactly what I wanted. It's been maybe three weeks now, and I've continued to use the products and my hair has never felt healthier or shinier. Usually I can have a lot of frizziness, but for once it's under control. I finally found my salon! I can't wait to go back! I will totally be one of those "gets a trim every three months" people now that I finally have a salon I can trust. Well, okay, a straight-haired friend recommended Tasha's to me, but that didn't guarantee that someone who cut her straight hair well could handle my curly mop. I ended up seeing Coral (who also cut my friend's hair) and she absolutely nailed it. I wanted a drastically different, very short haircut, and she was super excited to try something new. I had brought in a photo for her to reference, which she used, but she also adjusted the style to suit my face better. The haircut is absolutely fantastic, and I've stuck with it for several months now (a big deal, given that I was uncertain about it when I cut it at first). I've never had a hairstyle that I can tame in 30 seconds in the morning. It's amazing and I love it. I've gone back to see Coral several times since then and she's always been reliable. She's also a total sweetheart. The salon itself is pretty, very spacious, and has all the professional equipment you would expect (my personal favorite being hair dryers hanging from the ceiling - I'm easily amused). They also sell a lot of hair and general beauty products there. They take appointments, but I've never had to wait more than a day or two, and they usually get me in the same day. They have a nice waiting area with comfy couches. It's just generally a really comfortable place to be - everyone is super friendly and will chat with you, and a couple of times there have been kids/younger siblings running around, which I thought made the place really friendly and relaxing. It's not a silent, super-fancy, stick-up-the-butt salon, and I wouldn't want it to be. I was also VERY pleased with the price. I've spent absurd amounts of money in search of a good haircut with a stylist who actually knows curly hair. At Tasha's, I've never paid more than $25, even when they increased their prices a few months ago. I may be paying a little bit less because my hair is so short and I've never needed a blow-dry (another benefit of having short hair! WHOO!)
