Once we got to the front of my head, I noticed the parts were uneven and much larger than I wanted. When I told the braider I wasn't happy with the size, she immediately grabbed a pair of scissors and cut one of the braids out, cutting approximately three inches off my real hair. At that point, I was even more upset because I had come in for a protective style and ended up losing inches of my own hair. The salon offered me only a $20 discount after cutting my hair, which I did not feel was an appropriate resolution. Another issue was that there were no mirrors available for clients to see the back of their hair during the appointment. Instead, they offered to take a picture and insisted the braids in the photo were the same size as the ones on my head. To have someone try to gaslight me into believing that my reference photo, which is attached, and the parts on my head were the same size is beyond ridiculous. They were clearly not. To make matters worse, the young lady in the pink Lululemon outfit was very rude. She told me, "I don't have time for this," and said the braider had another client waiting, as if my appointment, which started at 8:00 AM, didn't matter. I had been there since 8:00 AM, and instead of taking my concerns seriously, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them for speaking up about my hair. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Between not receiving the size I requested, the uneven parts, having inches of my hair cut off, the lack of professionalism, and the way my concerns were handled, I would not recommend this salon.

Not a new salon attendee. Hence the check in process definitely caught me off guard. Girl at the front started off the bat with +$15 for long hair (I have hair 2 inches below my shoulder). Fine, $15 extra, no biggie. Get to the wash chair, no communication for if water temperature was alright. When I added the blow out to the package as well, she mentioned it's not included in the package for haircut and wash. Obviously Sherlock lol. It was simply odd, non-elevated, and felt ghetto. Chair I sat on had hair from perhaps previous client, so hygiene factor isn't there. Haircut itself was good. Emad did a great job. Seriously lacking professionalism!…read more I'm a not-so recent transplant to the NJ area, and anyone whose had a similar experience of moving to a new area and wanting to get their hair braided knows it's not the easiest feat! A lot of hair braiding places are stuck in the Stone Age of business sense, no website - with pictures or prices, limited customer service, and the worst offense: no appointments! I was recommended Mame & Henriette by a coworker, who didn't go there herself, but had a friend who had gone here. I gave them a call and asked about getting my hair braided the next day. I was told, "That's fine, we're open.", to which I asked, "Okay, perfect - is there a particular time I should come in?", and the response was, "We open at 8." That should've been my red flag. I asked whether I should come in at 8 then, which was another 'yes'. I showed up that Saturday around 8:22, I figured I'd give them some time to get settled in if they open at 8. That was my second mistake, first being not getting a concrete appointment time. There were three girls already getting their hair braided in singles/box braids, a fourth that had just been finished, and two other girls seated around the tiny salon still waiting to be taken as well. Did we all get told to come in at 8am?! Nonetheless, I sat down and decided to wait, my third and final mistake. I should've asked how long it would be before I got my hair done, since they kept getting phone calls and telling those customers to come in at '1pm' and then '4pm', but they also should've had the professionalism to tell me how long it might be, in case I didn't want to wait. I came in around 8:22am, and left without a word at 11:11am. This was after another customer continued to try to find out when their fourth stylist was supposed to show up, to which vague answers were given, i.e., "She's coming, she's coming..". And after they took a lunch break in the salon, making me seriously regret also not having eaten before I came...also, no one washed their hands after? I went down the street, to Sy Khadi and was in and out around 30mins or so, see my phone message w/ my partner for those time stamps. She also said I should wash and blow dry my hair before going which I did. My hair was done fairly quickly, maybe in an hour and a half. It was $80 including hair for a high bun with braids around my hair. I thought the price was fair. The only downside is that the shop is really messy which did make me a bit uncomfortable. They still had Christmas decorations up, and it was disorganized. For the great quality result I got, if this show was straightened up and looked more inviting inside it would be great for them! The women were so sweet! If I need my hair. Raided again, I'll go back.
