When I moved to my new 'hood earlier this year, more than one person told me "Oh, you'll be able to…read moreshop at Fairview Green, they have a really good Foodland there". It's true, it is one of the high-end Romeo's Foodlands and boasts an impressive deli section, a huge selection of antipastos, cheeses and luxe platter ingredients, smoked salmon and nibbly things. They stock speciality ranges of nice foodie gifty things like Maggie Beer products and a large range of T2 teas. I was also impressed with the large self-serve selection of lollies and chocolates. Apparently there are nuts, dried fruits and bulk grainy things too somewhere amongst the choc-covered honeycomb and lolly snakes. You don't get pick and mix in my old 'hood, where "self-serve" largely equates to "dacking a block of Cadbury's and sauntering out swigging from a can of Mother you also haven't paid for". Interestingly, and conveniently, they also have an in-house café which does a variety of breakfast and café selections with regular changing specials and a tempting display case of sweet treats. Add this to the big bakery section right alongside and you have danger, Will Robinson, danger! You can also pick up a takeaway coffee from here (should you not be mystifyingly off coffee at the moment) and place it in the specially-designed coffee holder on your trolley as you complete your shop. It's busy on a weekend when full of customers who can best be described as ditherers. It doesn't matter what random item you're after; a potato peeler, a can of three-bean mix or a carton of Zymil skimmed milk, somebody will be standing in front of it making a big life decision. If you can come during the week, you'll have an easier time of it and the lines won't be as long. I don't often do a full shop here as I find the baby selection isn't as large or competitively-priced as the bigger chains but it is an excellent spot for top-up shops and a weekend brunch.

15/12/2011 Photos First to Review I carried a green…read morerecycling bag for two boxes of tissues. No really. I did. (My brother spent less than $10.) There isn't that much in Woolworths that we need, but it still makes us happy to pay a quick visit every once in a while after work. Everything you need in a grocery store is here. I just wish it was as big as the Wal-Mart I saw in Texas. Depending on what you need, you can spend anywhere from $10 to $120 as you exit the store. By the way, I scored a brand new computer desk lamp for only $19.95!! Where else can you buy such a thing for a low price? That's half the price of the lamps that rip you off at other places! I needed one desperately for my long hours of yelping in front of the computer because the old lamp that served me for 15+ years finally ran out of globe life. If you hunt properly, you can actually find some great grabs for less than $5! They're always doing low-price promotions here! I love it! I don't usually carry much cash, but that's okay! There are plenty of those swiping machines for you to use now, when you've collected all your items. Yay! God bless the staff in green for helping everyone out when they're stuck on the swiping machines, as we walk out. God bless this new invention for supermarkets! I wonder if any other non-grocery stores will take this concept on? So I walked out with new boxes of tissues for my hayfever in less than 5 minutes. In and out. If only I had more cash for groceries, I'd actually love this store because they are the number one most profitable supermarket business in Adelaide, and none of their competitors come close to the amount of profits "Woolies" make every year. And I must commend the staff in their green uniform, thank you for the friendly chat when I needed to decide which orange juice to buy, and the difference between the Aussie juices and the imported juices. However, this depends where you are exactly. If you're shopping on the upper level (there are only two levels), then you have a very slim chance of being helped in the aisles (no-one's there!), and that's not right because that's where customers need the most help = finding things! Nevertheless, I ALWAYS find myself drifting back and forth inside here everytime I'm in Rundle Mall. I confess, I'm a certified Woolworths regular.

You CAN pay over the odds at a BP service station, there's two open 24/7 in the area - however if you're not going at paying two to three times what the can of catfood is worth at your local supermarket, you CAN go to the IGA... Open till midnight, this is often a lifesaver for me - 15 years after leaving the Gold Coast I still have the odd lapse of concentration and forget I live in Adelaide, home of the 5pm closure, rather than a 24 hour fantasmogoria of shopping opportunities. You can get everything here from cat food to breakfast cereal, and the store is open till midnight. OMG, midnight, whatever is Adelaide coming to??? Until Campbelltown gets a 24 hour shop of some kind, the IGA is it. It provides absolute gold by being open way past the time every other supermarket has curled up with it's pillow and a nice fluffy doona. Kudo's IGA, I love you!!!

I find myself here a lot actually, I should probably organise myself a little better, but then again I know this place is here as a sort of grocery safety net.
