This is my local though, so I guess I have a bit of an affinity for the place that offers me fuel, friendly staff, coffee, and life support when I find we're out of bread, cat food, milk, or chocolate biscuits just after 9.30pm. The sign proudly proclaims that they never close - not quite true, they did close for a bit whilst doing major renovations, including putting in one of those shiny new car washes - and a dog wash, too. They're not the cheapest fuel in town, often a bit late to drop the price per litre and being good at pushing it up, but that's only a couple of cents per litre mostly - running my V8 across town to someone with discount fuel kinda negates the savings. The one thing that really irks me with petrol stations, signs saying the pumps are out of order when the fuel's cheap, I've never seen here. The other thing I absolutely love the BP at Athelstone for is their tyre gauge and pumping station - it's always been accurate, and the nozzle works - so many must see so much traffic it's just natural that the fittings suffer from wear and tear. This is also the last fuel you'll get on your way out on Gorge Road - or the first you'll find coming back in. Many years ago, after a run in the hills, I pretty much rolled in to the pump on vapours, before even knowing Athelstone existed. There's oddly good memories associated in getting fuel exactly when you're about to run out. Oh, yeah, the other reason these guys rock... C Coffee - now, you can get some mediocre C Coffee at times, I remember one place close to somewhere I worked had one person who managed to consistently make bad coffee - somehow he'd manage to make the coffee taste burnt, don't know if it was the milk, or the coffee itself, but a latte was punishment... these guys haven't made me a bad cup yet.

This local petrol station is the one I go to all the time for my cheap petrol with my Woolies…read morevoucher. They are always the cheapest around me I find, and it's never very busy which is good, especially for driver sided pumps. They also have air and water as usually, plenty of pumps with all types of petrol, limited snacks inside as its really small and friendly staff. It's not open 24/7 though so if you need petrol at 1am on a week night, go elsewhere.

To this date I have only run out of fuel once, and most of the time, it is thanks to EZY Fuels on OG road and its locality half way between my place and my parents! Although this is one of my local servos I would travel further if required to get here for two reasons. Firstly it is one of the two cheapest stations in town (the other directly across the road). The second reason is that it is under independent ownership, one of very few around the city. Once in a while there is a story on the local news about the price war between this station and it's rival across the way, and they are consistently the cheapest around...so make sure if you are in the area and need to fill up, get on the local boy.

Not my favourite servo, although I do go in here once in a while when I have to - purely because…read moreit's so small, I've had to queue to get a pump, and driving a small yacht I like to go somewhere that you have some room to maneuver. I'm also not keen on places that have the attendant locked in a small booth and you have to pay through a slot - if they're that worried about security at night, so am I - and I'm the one stuck out in the open with money on me to pay for fuel for. There's another Woolies servo a little further up on Lower North East Road, about the same distance as this from Glynburn Rd - it's on the other side though - but it's big, and open all the time, and you can always get a pump - plus it's often a cent or two cheaper, and always slower to change the prices up on the cycle.

This is a tiny little servo that's kind of plonked in the middle of a shopping centre car park…read more It's awkward as to get into, you can't enter it from the Payneham Rd side unless you do a 25 point turn. To make your life easier you need to enter from the side street before Maccas. Other than that the fuel's normally reasonably priced, and you save your 4 or 8 cents if you're a Woolies shopper. In a nutshell - patience is a virtue to get in here!
