I first met Dr. Mark Swening when my beloved DeweyB lost his eye. It was a Saturday afternoon at…read moremy mother's home 3.5 hours away from DeweyB's regular vet, he was in pain and I was PANICKED. My sister recommended we call Mark. He met us at his clinic and did emergency surgery that evening. It was the first and only time Dewey B had to stay in a hospital overnight. Although Mark was unable to save the eye, Dewey B recovered very nicely. Recently I adopted Lady. She came to me very ill and emaciated. I took her to 3 different vets in San Antonio. All told me she had heartworms and was not strong enough to survive the treatment. I called Dr. Swening. Once again, he came to my rescue. Lady has indeed survived the treatments and although still recovering, her outlook has greatly improved. I have since taken my other three "babies" (all pugs) to Mark for dental cleanings and senior well care. He is an EXCELLENT doctor, caring individual and overall great guy. With such great care, I am willing to continue driving 3.5 hours one way! If you are anywhere in Central Texas, I HIGHLY suggest you make the trip!

My husband and I couldn't afford to have our cats leg amputated due to financial hardship. We decided to euthanize our sweet girl. We were judged for not getting her leg amputated. I don't think we waited much more than two minutes, if that, and they had an exam room ready for us. Dr. Speck was gentle and caring with our pup, tested her, treated her, and sent us home with follow up meds. Super thankful for their help on a holiday weekend.

I had to rush my newly adopted dog into an Emergency clinic in Fort Worth because she was having…read moresome discharge. When I was able to bring her back to Abilene, I came to this vet because it was the closest. The emergency clinic charged me hundreds of dollars and told me my dog was on death's door- grade 4 heart murmur, pyrometra, multiple tumors. Dr. Early was prepared to tell me the same thing, but did his own tests- did a full body wellness check, x rays, and full blood work up. He came back and said that my dog was perfectly healthy, just having false pregnancy. She has since been spayed and had one (not five like the emergency clinic said) tiny tumor removed and is as healthy and happy as ever. He was very happy for me and my new girl Lola that she was not what the emergency clinic said she would be. The technicians are all super kind and helpful and they know Lola and me right away whenever we walk in. He is very intelligent and knows what he is doing, and he is very brutally honest. If you don't like honest and a vet that gets straight to the point, then you may not work well with him. But he does not "beat around the bush", he tells you as it is. I will continue going here because him and his staff have been wonderful and helpful and understanding to me and Lola!!
