The fish is good quality but the chips are often overcooked. The food is also quite expensive for what it is

It was quite busy when I popped in in the early evening, which I always think is a good sign. I did not have to wait too long though. We just ordered two cod and chips and were soon on our way home. The service was good and the staff were busy, so there was not much time for chit chat. The prices were not too bad either. When we finally got round to eating our food, it was good, still hot and very tasty. I think it is hard for anywhere to do bad fish and chips, but some places can make the chips a little silly. No soggy chips here though and overall, me and my friend were very pleased with our dinner!

Well, when it arrived, it was piping hot, loads of mushy peas, the chips were perfect, and the fish ( which was quite big ) was absolutely wonderful. I have never tasted batter quite like this. This 'mini ' meal filled me up so much so that although I ate all of the fish, I very reluctantly left a few of the delicious chips. we chose to eat in, which was fine, and together we made the decision that we will certainly be returning here every two or three weeks. To sum up , PERFECTION.

I've tried most of their food and think it tastes great but it wouldn't hurt for them to expand the healthy menu. The staff are usually chatty and if you're a regular, like I used to, they like get to know you. Isn't that nice? The prices are what you'd expect for a normal chip shop; approximately two pounds for a pie, two to four pounds for chips (depending on your portion) and a pound for a drink. I can't expect more from this chippy other than the promote their healthy eating menu, for the sake of the customer's body!

They have a wide selection of classics fish shop food. It's clean and the staff are friendly and recently they opened a cafe next door which is also owned by the fish shop and is a clean and friendly environment. I think the cafe is manly open in the morning and early afternoon for lunch so bare that online if you wanna go. The fish stop is a short walk from the 49&3 bus stop and really close to the Shirley train station meaning it's really easy to get some fish and chips on the way home.

But the key is for them to be smooth and fluffy inside and slightly crisp on the exterior, without residual grease. Swan Fish Bar offers decent chips but they're not necessarily to my taste. They're not as chunky as I prefer and are generally greasy. But not all people like a similar chips, so maybe you'd love them! Their fish is also quite greasy with more batter than fish. Although I do love their scallops...I can almost taste it in my mouth now! Their prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The staff is bubbly and pleasant. The chippy is located on a roundabout island with limited parking outside. It's not a bad idea to buy chips from here for a picnic in nearby Swanshurst Park!

With Oceans, they are convenient for me if I'm getting into Birmingham city centre and on my way to the office in Digbeth. I go past it nearly every other day, so if I'm running late and its lunch time; sometimes I do pop in and buy my favourite- the 5 hot wings and chips (includes a drink) for £2.50!! The hot wings from Oceans are lovely. As a fan of hot wings, usually KFC ones, I know the difference between tasty chicken and not so tasty chicken- it's my speciality. They do have a lot of meal deals in Oceans, really cost effective for students and for those on a budget. It's great to know that £2.50 can still buy you a meal which includes a drink as well. Their kebabs are also delicious. If I'm feeling like having something different, I do have the kebab meal; however this is £3.50 instead.

Instead, you get the shadow of a former Toys R Us, bus fumes and the sound of a moaning dad or three. However, the absence of the seaside outside is compensated by the little gem inside. Golden chips (proper, fat'uns), well-battered fish and a range of chippy extras - scallops and oi, oi, saveloy - make this a worthwhile visit, especially if you need some quick scran on the way to the Giant Screen Cinema (formerly IMAX) at nearby Millennium Point. Chippy beats popcorn - fact.

Apologies in advance for this but I may go a bit overboard on my review of this perfect chippy…read more As a man who lives on the road you try a lot of fast food and visit a lot of quirky little road side cafes this one is my number one. The Cranmore Fish Bar is by far the top of my list, the best most enjoyable fish and chips I have ever tasted and the quality rarely varies from excellent. I have been popping in here now for many years and I can only say the quality has improved with the passing of years. The young man who fries the fish here is a virtuoso master of the art, his batter is light and delicious and enhances the flavour of the fish rather than drown it as can so often be the case. But the secret is not just in the frying, the fish itself is always thick cut, succulent and meaty. What nails it as the perfect chippy is that it qualifies as an ideal "just off" in that I mean it is a great alternative to the Motorway services. Being just off Junction 4 of the M42 and close by a Tesco petrol station it is the wallet healthy alternative to the overpriced motorway services. I recommend the small fish and chips deal as the ideal meal, the large fish is very large indeed. Try it and let me know if you know better.
