The detailed explanation of the car's history is interesting. I would love to know how the furniture made its way from Paris back to Indiana and to the museum. The second floor is a "Main Street USA" mock up of businesses that used to exist in Peru, but with much smaller footprints. Perhaps nostalgic if you grew up here, but seeing old glass pharmacy bottles didn't interest me much. The exhibits looked like they were from an earlier time. Several of the second floor exhibits from pioneer days seemed to be missing items and the objects behind the glass did not match the printed descriptions of what was supposed to be in there. The third floor is circus related things that are calling out to be better displayed and described. One elephant skull was accompanied by a fascinating explanation. I was left guessing as to the background and significance as to most of the rest of the third floor items. The gift shop has some merchandise that has no apparent connection to Peru or to history. Not sure how it ended up there. There was only one employee present on my three visits and he staffed the front desk. One one day he was asleep at the desk (really, sound asleep). On the two other days, he was watching cartoons (sorry - anime) on a laptop computer. If he needs something to do, he could dust the exhibits on the first floor while keeping an eye on people entering.

The Miami County Historical Society has turned the historic former Senger Dry Goods building into a…read morelocal history museum. The area is rich in history, most notably the birthplace of Cole Porter and the winter home to a number of circuses in the early 1900's. The first floor of the three story museum holds furniture and a Cadillac once owned by Porter. Local artifacts, Mastodon fossil bones, and other area antiques are also on display. Mock local storefronts on the second floor hold local items and tell the story of early life in Peru. The museum has done a remarkable job of preserving historical items and telling their stories. Circus memorabilia is arranged on the third floor with stories about the various troops, people and animals. I liked the use of the former department store to hold local history. The walls seemed to welcome visitors and tell stories. The Museum requests a $5 donation but changes no admission fee. The clerk is friendly and describes the contents. A small gift shop is available near the entrance. An elevator is available to move from floor to floor. Plan 2 hours for a visit. The museum is a must visit for those interested in local history.

The roads are a little confusing if some of them are one way or not. The waterfall area is quiet and pretty. They had some picnic tables. There was a staircase to view it closer and the stairs were a little sketchy. The beach area was pretty wide and we found space. They have a little snack area and a dive center. They also have an inflatable obstacle course for purchase. The restrooms were messy and smelled. The beach was clean and they had trash cans. The quarry water was clear and the water was nice. They have primitive camp sites and electrical sites. We saw that most of the electrical sites seem to have full time residents there. Overall it's a great spot to check out and relax at.

ok-i have to come out and say right off the bat that i am not an artist, nor do i work with…read moreglass--although i did work at a company that did a lot of glass walls--think 1/2 inch glass--but this is a lot different. my girlfriend is the artist and works with glass and she and i had a discussion about coming here. i am totally enamored with the tour, the production and the information presented. what really blew my mind away is the trememdous customer service attitude that i witnesses today. she needs something specific, and the great care that was shown her in finding particular colors of glass really impressed me. too often it seems that in a lot of places the care of the customer is overlooked. not here--by a long shot. and you gotta take the tour even if you are not looking to buy or work with glass. it is fantastic to watch and i suppose in the oven room on a very cold winter day would be a great place to be but even so today was delightful even with the heat outside. thanks again for the time and care that everyone showed us today in trying to find something special. and yes, the drive was worth it.

Kokomo Opalescent Glass is America's oldest glass manufacturing company. They began manufacturing…read morecolorful sheet glass in 1888 and, today, produce 75% of the world's stained glass. I took a tour of their factory today. Tours are available weekdays by calling their office. The 45 minute tour costs $6 for adults and $3 for students. The tour starts and ends in their small gift shop. We visited and saw demonstrations of molten glass moving from furnaces to make sheet glass. We learned about how they mix colors and recycle waste glass. We visited their warehouse and learned about the different qualities of glass and how the glass is shipped. Finally, we saw artisans making decor pieces from the glass. Our tour guide was friendly and interesting. I had trouble hearing her in the furnace room, but still was able to follow. Closed shoes must be worn (no sandals). They provide safety glasses. We found ample parking in their lot. Restrooms are available on site. The buildings are ancient and interesting. The furnace building holds a beehive furnace that was interesting, but is no longer operational. Worth a visit to this Indiana treasure.

The staff is friendly and willing to help anyone with anything. The campground has various types of campsites. They range from fully shaded to side by side pullthroughs. They also have a tent area reserved especially for the tent camper. There is a clean bath house which include showers. Each site provides electric and water, including the tent sites. Over all Springhill Campground and Pay Pit is clean, fun, family oriented and a very pleasant experience.
