I liked her when I first talked to her on the phone and even more in person. She is very down to earth and human, and her experience and advice was helpful and sound. The Durango area is very 'local' when it comes to something as sensitive as therapy and to be honest I didn't like alot of the other therapists I spoke to. I guess I will just be honest and say that I found some of them a little cliquey. I'm sorry, but there it is. Kathleen is independent and knowledgeable and I valued her insight and support. Alot of what good therapy is, is having a healthy relationship in which to be yourself and voice your fears and concerns without criticism or control. We all have to find our own way and develop a strong trust in our own intuition. I felt that Kathleen helped me to do that, and I appreciated her time. No one is perfect, and that's not the point. 1) He's unlicensed and is not legally bound to maintain confidentiality…read more 2) He considers yelling and getting angry at clients to be an acceptable and useful strategy. This is particularly troubling as it goes against one of the basic tenets of being a counselor: "Do no harm." He will also blame his angry outbursts on you instead of taking responsibility for his own actions. Other counselors have confirmed that this behavior is both abusive and unacceptable. 3) He will tell you stories about other clients, which means that he's telling other clients stories about you. 4) He will unload his personal troubles on you which also goes against the tenets of the therapeutic relationship. 5) He is consistently at least 5-10 minutes late and will occasionally forget about sessions completely
