Ended up with their single-origin pour-over--Ethiopian this time--and it was bright, juicy, and perfectly balanced, like every sip reminded me why I fell in love with coffee in the first place. Sat by the window watching the rain hammer Pasong Tamo, worked on my laptop for hours with zero pressure to leave. The space is still that perfect mix of raw concrete and warm light, never too crowded, always calm. Staff remembered my usual order even though it's been months since I last dropped by. Few cafes in Metro Manila can stand out from the competition without emulating Starbucks. Cafe UK is a part of the few. A local favorite among the people in P. Noval, Cafe UK never fails to draw a crowd each day. A crowd mostly made up of students. The students love it here. Great ambiance, good food and coffee, nice staff and free Wi-Fi are just a few of the reasons why this place has become a regular on many people's place to chill. I'm pretty sure the guy who owns this place knows his target market. I mean, the way this place feels and how it's setup is just so right for students. It's tailor made to appeal to that kind of demographic. The branch here in P. Noval looks a bit tight and cramped. What it lacks in floor area it makes up for with the number of floors. In a way though, I actually liked the cramped space of this cafe. It forces people to be close and conversations are more likely to be intimate and engaging that way. Cafe UK is sweet. Cafe UK is open 24 hours, and becomes a great places to study at around nine in the evening. Things are quiet at this hour up to around ten in the morning the following day, at which point it becomes a melting pot for the different students from the different schools that populate Mendiola. Wi-fi is free, which is probably another reason why so many students love to congregate at this awesome cafe. The biggest quirk that this cafe has that I don't find anywhere else are the free to use iPads. Never have I walked into a cafe that has free to use iPads, These iPads are ingeniously built into the table, I often find students spending a lot of their time drinking their orders and playing the latest games on Cafe UK's tablet. Free WiFi, excellent food and drinks, wonderful prompt service, and the tablets allows Cafe UK to deliver a great experience. Go for a visit sometime and I promise you that it'll be time and money well spent.

Coffee Bean is the place where we've had meetings of 8 people where literally only one person bought a drink. I'm super sorry Coffee Bean, but I think the reason why that happens is because CBTL is such an amazing study/project place. It's probably one of the best on Taft - the WiFi is fast and free, the coffee is good if you have the cash for it, and the couches are comfy. The only problem is that there are fairly few plugs, but that's nothing a few extension cords can solve. So let's go to the actual coffee bean part of CBTL. First, White Chocolate Dream. WHITE CHOCOLATE DREAM!!! is easily the best coffee in my honest to goodness opinion. I absolutely hate the taste of white chocolate in general, but the way they blend the vanilla with the chocolate with coffee is effin' delicious, especially when it's warm. Their regular coffees like cappucinos, cafe mocha and brew are also pretty solid for what they're worth. I don't really love their ice blended drinks - I prefer Starbucks' ice blended but generally, I think CBTL is better for hot drinks. As for food, well, it's pretty much the same as every other coffee-shop food - I particularly like their normal chocolate cake and their breakfast platters. At the end of the day though, CBTL Archers is absolutely a study place. Try it for your next study-venture.
