This library really only has something to offer if you are a kid or parent with very young children. There are no consistently hosted programs for adults. Sure, they have some one-off programs, but they mostly appeal to teens, and there just isn't any consistency in regards to when they are scheduled. If you can consistently schedule children's storytime and an under 3 club, why can't you have at least one activity or club, scheduled once a week, that is aimed primarily at adults? The program doesn't need to be expensive or messy (such as candle painting), it just needs to be something that can be held consistently, like a game night (tabletop, co-op video games, or board games would all work depending on the budget). I went to the library's youtube channel, and apparently they used to have this and it had consistently growing attendance, so I don't know why they stopped.
The only meeting space is incredibly small, cramped, and feels like a panopticon. If I wanted to go here to hang out with more than 1-2 friends there really isn't room for it unless we wanted to risk disturbing other people, and it isn't like there isn't space for a bigger meeting room. The director's office is way larger than the designated meeting room, which seems like a massive waste of space. It is just more convenient to pay to get a coffee and go upstairs at The Celtic Cup to hang out, than it is to go to the library, despite the library being free and physically closer.
Overall, I get the sense that management doesn't prioritize anyone in the community that isn't a parent or a child. There is clearly a lot of time and money going into decorating supplies and one-off events, but nothing is left over for people who may rely on a taxpayer funded resource like the library to give them a community outside of work or their family. read more
