This mall has undergone many renovations and upgrades and is now beautiful. It felt like an abandoned mall not too long ago and now I'd like to shop here each weekend. This is probably one of the saddest malls -- yes, there's a Nordstrom Rack but the rest of the mall itself is quiet with most of the stores closed or not interesting. There was hardly anyone there (not even mall walkers). The outside of the mall had some restaurants that seemed to be where the action lies but the interior is pretty sad, dingy and lack fun. read more

Coddingtown has a wonderful young child play area for a welcoming atmosphere. I like shopping there because it's easy to park, there's a nice store selection and it feels safe inside and out. People forget Amazon and shop local! read more

Convenient and clean shopping center. It includes my favorites - Target and Wholefoods - as well as Macy's, Nordstrom Rack, and franchise retail stores. There is plenty of parking, which is always a plus. Dining is also available, including BJ's and Chipotle. It seems like the smaller retail stores don't have as much foot traffic, and the hallways of the mall seemed pretty empty - most people were in Target or the other department stores. The larger stores (like Target) have a second entrance leading to the parking lot, so you don't necessarily need to enter the mall to enter those. The Christmas decorations are a bit underwhelming but still somewhat festive. The variety of stores in one location is very convenient, especially for the holiday season and hunting for gifts, so I will definitely be back! read more

Back in the day Coddingtown used to be full of stores. What happened? There are so many empty spaces where stores used to be. Rumor has it they charge rent up the wazoo and no one can afford to rent a space for their store... that's a turn off to want to support this place. After shopping here for over 20 years... Ive given up hope it will improve and now I shop elsewhere. Target, Nordstrom's and Whole Foods isn't enough to make me want to shop here unfortunately. read more

Since they got Ulta, Old Navy (again), Target, Famous footwear, and Nordstrom Rack, it's my go to shopping location when I'm not shopping second hand. Plus really good food options! Well, Fellow Sonoma county residents - Admit it. It's fun & validating to hate Coddingtown mall since The Simon Group took over. At this date the Evil Simon group has been trying to evict family owned Narsi's restaurant for months. They have bankrupted the guy with legal fees & court battles, but he continues to valiantly fight the corporation on principle. He has a valid 5 years remaining on his lease contract & Simon Malls just wants him out! To be replaced with what? Cheesecake factory? Yuck! I've lived in Santa Rosa on & off since 1973. Back then Coddingtown Mall was open Monday thru Saturday (Closed Sunday) . Hours were 10am to 5pm!!! Open 'til 9pm on Thursday night only. Coming from Southern CA back then I was shocked at the small town management mentality and the country hick merchandise on display at the retailers. But it reflected the social / economic / political milieu of 1973 Santa Rosa. Has much really changed since 1973 besides the longer hours of operation? Well, a few locally owned retailers still hang on by a thread. Gottschalk's went bankrupt in 2009. Whole Foods framed a building space and never moved in. The local press has gone completely silent on the future of that project. Coddingtown is a dowager mall that has poor "numbers" that does not attract interest from high end mass retailers. Over the past 12 years Guitar Center has looked at Coddingtown several times for a possible small footprint store and killed the idea every time after business projections showed no profit potential. I moved back to Sonoma County in 2007. Been to Coddingtown 3 times. It's dismal inside and out. I've had more fun visiting mausoleums to read the headstones. I purchase my clothes at Marshall's. I buy shoes at DSW on Powell street in SF. Everything else can be had at Costco... read more

The Whole Foods&Target keep the mall, such as it is, alive, albeit on life support. It's a genuinely good Whole Foods. Unfortunately, most of the mall is closed off due to tons of vacancies. To exacerbate matters, one can see the charred remnants of the October 2017 wildfires, and how the fires got dangerously close (they leapt the 101 at Coffey Park) Coddingtown Mall was built as the result of natural disasters. It was seen as revitalizing Santa Rosa after quake swarms in the 50s and 60s. Now, it's more like a post-apocalyptic burnt out shell. Sad! read more

I was in coddingtown yesterday, running some errands before work. I sat down. I had a bag, my wallet, umbrella phone with me. I inadvertently dropped my wallet and didn't realize until I went to go pay for something at a store. I hurried back to where I was, to see three young men, standing where I was sitting. As I get closer, I see one of the gentleman has my wallet in his hand. I yelled that is my wallet, as there's a security guard I had just passed standing towards the entrance of target. He was playing on his phone, I glanced back he was still playing on his phone. Are y'all again? That is my wallet. As he sitting down trying to stuff it in the seat. He then decides he should stand up and hand it to me open. As they walk off minus the cash in my wallet, at least I got my wallet back. The security guard never came to see what was going on as he was less than 3 feet away from me. I know damn well he heard me yelling. He needs to get out of his phone and pay attention to what's going on in the mall. I am just thankful to have my wallet back. Hopefully they needed the money more than I did. I've been wanting to come here since I've only been to Plaza but I was utterly let down when I went shopping today. There is barely anything in this mall. A new Target is opening soon and they have a Whole Foods. That's cool.. Two stores.. The mall is dead and inside looks completely outdated. I was told they renovated but it still doesn't look that great. It just gives me a feel of an unpopular mall that's still stuck in the 80's. Coddingtown Mall has a bad reputation for being a bleak shopping experience. Mostly because some of the mall is like a ghost town with some areas being vacant. Sometime ago the Lord and Taylor (I think) closed and when Halloween rolled around a popular costume shop opened up in that space. How crazy, a ton of space to do your Halloween costume shopping. But Coddingtown has some winners and some stores which are different enough to warrant an occasional visit and or stop by to see what's there. That one sports store that sells it all, seriously they carry toys, pricey watches and travel plans. Coddingtown has surprised me. For many reasons. One time I took a walk through after shopping at Whole foods, it was close to Thanksgiving and a Disney channel crew was there with booming mics, music and fun for children and families. It was early morning and here's this guy that's crazy animated jumping around and getting the kids motivated with Disney channel favorites. It was after seeing all of this that I realized some of the responses I hear some of my younger nieces and nephews say is stuff they've picked up from Disney shows. Still, I don't get why Joshua insists on saying "What ya doin?" with such sass. A five year old boy doesn't need that much sass. Coddingtown mall also offers a couple uniform stores. Stores which carry brands like Carhart or dickies, companies which produce work clothing for businesses that are in the service industry. Mechanics, construction, food service clothes, work boots, accessories to meet the demands of most needs. FYI Santa Rosa has very few decent shops which carry work attire. I've looked. Lastly, you gotta see the marketing gals that work here. Whew! LoL. Look forward to Old Navy opening soon. read more

What a shame Coddingtown has become. I will admit that it has never been a stunning mall, but it seems like a desert oasis versus a lively mall at the moment. Had the chance to attend an event at a restaurant attached to the mall. While that was good, I had some free time to roam around the mall and see if it had changed since the several upgrades it had undergone in the past years. Sadly most of the stores were selling useless items otherwise known as "As sold on TV" items. Of course it boasts some interesting stores, some examples would be; Target, Whole Foods, Bath and Body Works, etc. Although that is nice, these stores seem to be de facto stores for many malls in the area, so nothing really new. I will admit that the mall is still undergoing construction, so maybe the last few additions will bring life to it, but I am not holding my breathe. If you are going to stop by the mall, I will say they have some pretty stellar restaurants attached to it and worth taking a look at. read more

I can clearly see why Coddington owned by the Simon's group. Is such a failure. I bought food from a store in the mall whole food market $24. While I was sitting in my vehicle eating my dinner a fat Renta cop told me it was policy that I could not eat the food I purchased in my car in the parking lot. It was policy. Are u kidding me. It was 8:40 pm on a Sunday night. Nov 6,2016 So to make sure I don't violate the law of the Renta a cop in the future I have decided never to again to any shopping in the Coddington mall owned by the Simon's group. I was told this is policy and I don't want to break the law. I will go do all are shopping in Montgomery village were iam sure are money will be welcomed for the holidays.. I am advising all my friends as well as anyone else who will listen and not shop at Coddington. I will put this out on all social media outlets. And to make sure all my family,friends,customers are notified on Facebook. And last I average more than 2,000 customers a year. I'll make it a point to let as many customers as possible know about this dangerous law Simon's enforces on there property. Rest assured I will never set foot on your properties again both codding and Santa Rosa plaza. Finally I might even go so far as to send out a flyer. The maintenance crew needs to do a better job, this bigger caucasian guy wasn't doing much but dicking around on the golf cart in the parking lot, then when I see him again inside he's being very unprofessional using vulgar language. Well... There is lots of food vendors and drink vendors and i believe thats house this place stays afloat. I like pennys and macys but i miss the old stores like Millers Outpost. They keep the place nice and tidy. Ill come here during xmas time... I like santa. I am looking forward to the holidays cuz its done up so nicely with the xmas tree and all. This mall just makes me SO sad. I remember when I was little my mom and I used to go Christmas shopping here. It was always considered to be the "classier" mall verse Santa Rosa Plaza. We would go into the jewelry stores and I would point out which jewelry I liked. Hoping Santa would bring me that locket or perhaps a new charm for a charm bracelet. After we would hit up Sees Candies and of course get some delicious treats from the ladies in stripes. The rest of our day would consist of going through Gotshalks and Macy's. I would beg my mom to let me go into the CD store or perhaps get another ear piercing. The mall was never overpacked but a fun experience. All the stores were filled with great inventory as well. Now....what's left is ghetto and depressing. This Mall is basically an add for the crappy economy. Walking through the mall today made me so nostalgic for what it used to be. Many of the store fronts are closed down, complete rows shut down. I miss Narsi's and its really sad that they kicked him out of the mall. I also loved Sakura and was shocked to find it gone. On the plus side I can tell a change is coming to here. They have begun giving Coddingtown a facelift! They have added a Whole Foods, Sephora (it's small but at least it's a start....), a BJ's and I hear a Cheesecake Factory is coming as well. While I'll always miss the old classy Coddingtown, at least it won't be closing down completely! read more

In a way I feel kind of bad for this once thriving establishment. The stores are all small and un-heard of. I try and remember it being a bigger deal when I was just a child but the facade could definitely use a couple face lifts and liposuction to create a better area of common use. If it wasn't for The Whole Foods, Macy's and JCPenney I'm not sure how these small businesses would survive. When I visited Santa Rosa before I took a job, I spent a week in the area. That week was enough to remind me why I live in San Francisco. I'm not sure Coddingtown is a mall and it probably isn't sure either cuz the sign is blown out. Sure parking is ample but I haven't come across such a run down, uninspired setting for department stores. I don't feel like buying when I'm there. I'm usually thinking how fast can I get what I need and take off. Everything about it feels like the stores that are there are left over from the other santa rosa mall. Which is really unfortunate because I have observed a few stores that do have unique things. But the atmosphere is so drab that I don't bother to stop in for very long. Makeover? Yes. As of January 2016, looks like the mall is going through some rebuilding and improvements. It's definitely not a very big mall, but it does have the mainstream stores that you'd expect anywhere else, such as Target, JCPenny, Macy's, and even a Whole Foods! The parking doesn't seem to be too much of a problem (except during the holiday season and weekends or peak periods). It would be nice to see a food court and a few more shops. read more

I've seen the slow death of a mall and it ain't pretty. Fashion Island in San Mateo was standing on its last leg way back in the day when they mercifully tore it down, save for the ice skating rink which is all that remains. Now there's a half decent strip mall that you can see on the north side of 92 when driving to or from the San Mateo Bridge...... Enough of my rambling. Usually I cherry pick this mall (Old Navy, Macy's and the occasional trip to Fredricks and that's about it) but on Saturday, I got to be a part of something HUGE. Coddingtown, with the help of many of their vendors opened up at 7am, to allow 150+ children who wouldn't normally get school clothes, in with a group from a local service organization (active 20-30) and gave the group amazing discounts - the hair salon opened to allow stylist from all over town to come and donate their time giving the kids hair cuts, and sweetriver opened, and cooked the kids, the parents and all the volunteers breakfast. That's not something you see happening at the Downtown Mall - it goes to show that a little bit of local ownership and pride still exists. and I was lucky to be a part of that, and thank Coddingtown for opening their doors to make it happen. read more

A bit odd but practical. A one-story indoor shopping mall with ample outdoor parking but a lingering sense that times were a bit more prosperous once. I know, actually, that this place has gone through many cosmetic transformations and its recent incarnation as a carpeted facility is certainly an interesting change. It's biggest draw for me is probably that when I visit, I know exactly which stores I mean to visit so I can find parking fairly close by. Also, it's hardly ever crowded, so I don't have to worry about losing children as much as I would in a busier place. read more

JC Penneys is disgusting. There are about 3 or 4 stores with the young hooker look. Old Navy is ok, occasionally, but there is a better one on Santa Rosa avenue. Nothing anchoring this mall, nothing to bring in the crowds. Bring in a Cheesecake Factory. Bring in an H&M. Bring in a Dillard's or Neiman Marcus. How about a Hollister, or something like that?
