I got a call from a friend on a freezing Sunday afternoon. "Hey, we are in Grunerlokka and thinking about getting some hot chocolate. Have any suggestions and want to join us?" Had it not been for Yelp, I would maybe have suggested Kaffebrenneriet and I would have saidd no way in hell, since hot chocolate from Kaffebrenneriet is not worth walking out in -15°C. But I knew just the place to suggest and I, of course, had to try it myself. It was worth the 15 minute walk from my place in freezing temps. There are so many flavors of hot chocolate to choose from (chili, banana split, mint, caramel, vanilla, white chocolate, raspberry, etc.) but being my frist time there, I had to start with the classic. It was creamy, not too much chocolate, not too little. I didn't watch them make it, but I can guarantee they aren't making this stuff with powder and if it is powder, then it is crack. They have pastries, which I was tempted to try, but had already comitted myself to Hello Good Pie, but you will hear back from me once I get a chance to try them. The service was pretty good and the guy who took my order was really nice and smiling, which makes such a huge difference trying a place out. The place is decorated in a kind of antique, rustic style and there is a fire place to warm you up during the cold winters of Oslo. If you find yourself in the area, go here, even if it is not cold. You will not regret it! read more
