Happily, his office takes both of our insurances. We were able to get back-to-back check-ups recently. Dr. Vargo took us each back for X-rays, exams and consultations. He explained what he was doing and was easy to talk to. He asked us about any dental issues we had and explained how he is a bit more laid back than perhaps other dentists, in that he only drills and fills if he is sure it's a cavity. He pointed to a couple of stains on my molars that others might interpret as cavities, but by scraping them with a dental pick, he could see these weren't cavities. I appreciate that he won't put me through the pain of fillings for no reason. My husband did have a cavity, though. He was able to get a return visit scheduled for the filling within about a week. We were able to each also schedule cleanings. I've already been back for mine. These slots do seem to fill up fast, though, so I'd recommend scheduling in advance. The desk clerk was very positive and friendly. And the location inside MidCity Mall makes it very convenient. You can even go grocery shopping afterward at ValuMarket if in need. Dr. Vargo also mentioned that his office has been open for close to 30 years. It's been WAY too long since I was last at a dentist -- like so long that I'm embarrassed by it -- so I'm happy that I now have a new dental home.

Another dentist explained what Dr. Nasief did wrong. I could tell the new dentist felt really sorry for what was done to me. Now, I have to pay $3,000.00 for an implant. I will never go back to Dr. Nasief. Many people I know have known him since the 1970's. They say he is under the influence most of the time. I guess that is why he has to rip people off.

But this was recently remedied with a visit to my new dentist, Dr. Moldoveanu at Modern Family Dentistry. I was able to schedule an appointment about a month from when I first called, and to the office's credit, they called and texted me a couple of times when cancellations popped up. I didn't have to wait for my appointment to start when I showed up on the day of my appointment. Dr. Moldoveanu did my cleaning and exam -- plus he's a fan of Harry Potter, which we talked about in between me having his hands in my mouth and him working diligently to clean my pearly whites. I was told my appointment would last an hour, which it did. I appreciate that accuracy considering I needed to get home to relieve my babysitter. This is also a small office, with the dentist and two additional, friendly staff members. It was clear that they all work well together. I unfortunately have one cavity, which I will have to go back for later this month. But I take comfort knowing that my teeth are in the care of such a capable office.

I remember when I moved to Chicago and tried to find someone else up there. They tried to claim I had 22 cavities. I took the image to Rakutt, and they told me that there were places that tried to take advantage of bright-eyed, naive, people. Lesson learned. He told me I had no cavities and to be careful. I traveled from Chicago to see him. I couldn't trust anyone else. I was one of his first patients he got to put braces on. If my memory serves me correctly, when I first went to him as a wee pre-teen, he did not have the necessary certification to do braces. But he was studying to be able to. Voila! He finished, put some braces on me, and straight teeth are now had. Slightly adjusted as time goes on, but still relatively straight. I love the people that work there. Carlotta, the front of office, always asked about my family and me. She is always smiling and is just a calming presence. I hope he never retires, but I feel the day approaching. Reading some of the other comments may have been fair criticism but on the flip side they are people too. Friendly interaction is acceptable. And we only have 1 side of the story from the other clients. I have never felt like I was being ignored or could not approach them about any issues. Instead of actually helping patients, it seemed like he spent most of his time writing Google review responses while people were waiting for assistance. The billing was also a mess. Because of this, I received a bill that should have been handled through insurance in the first place. When I asked about it, Tim was dismissive and not helpful at all. A dental office should focus on patient care and proper administrative work.
