Cobalt is an incredible studio for every level of photographer - from relative beginner to the highest tier of professional. It's a fantastic space in general, but one of Cobalt's greatest strengths lies in the versatility offered. There are two levels to the studio, with a variety of functions and set pieces: a gorgeous and custom made curved glass product photography table, a boudoir suite, a natural light wall, a clawfoot bath tub, a massive curved photography cove (engineered by one of the owners), assorted paper backdrops, a private dressing area, several hair and makeup stations, and more. I've attended photography workshops at Cobalt, assisted other photographers on shoots, and done both model and product photography myself in different parts of the studio - and after each session, I can't wait to shoot there again. The owners, Bill and Tammy, are fantastic, and as hands-on or hands-off as you need them to be. Need a little help setting up the lights or sorting out some technical difficulties? Just ask and they'll hop in and do what they can. For what it offers, Cobalt's rates are incredibly affordable too. If you want to bring your own lights, that brings the cost down even further (though I usually prefer to use theirs - the quality and ease-of-use of even their basic lights package is more than worth the additional cost). I really can't imagine a better location to shoot professionally (or even just for fun - I book Cobalt for both). I have had the pleasure of shooting at Cobalt Studios on three occasions now, and each time has been nothing but an amazing experience. Studio owners Bill & Tammy have poured the heart in soul into making this studio perfect and it shows! From the salon chairs and dressing room for getting ready, to the numerous different shooting locations - this studio has it all! Not to mention, they have several furniture pieces that are interchangeable so if you shoot there numerous times your sessions never look the same! Bill and Tammy have both been onsite during my shoots to answer questions and lend a hand with staging an area. I was fortunate enough to do a group shoot with 12 models and 5 photographers within a couple weeks of the studio opening up and have since done a couple lighting classes here. The studio is top notch with everything a photographer could want; in my opinion, it's the best studio in Portland. Two floors with numerous shooting areas including dressing rooms, makeup area, and a separate boudoir area. Fantastic! A photographers dream come true. What a fabulous space and group of people ! Two floors of shooting space , countless backgrounds , a private boudoir section , and new updated equipment . This is a photographers dream playground . The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful . My favorite section is the natural light area , where on a good day you can get true natural light but even at nighttime you can flawlessly mimic any daytime setting. Hands down my favorite studio to shoot at in the Portland area. The owners are super friendly and the studio has every amenity you could want to make your clients feel comfortable! I personally love their giant CYC wall and using the in house profoto light setup. They have a ton of different shooting areas and an awesome makeup station. The most friendly, helpful staff in town. They have top of the line equipment for pro shooters and the novices who want to learn. There are plenty of events, classes, and oppurtunities to hone your skills and meet other photographers and models. They have a huge versatile space, a huge infinite psych wall and plenty of props. This is an amazing studio. They offer a variety of backdrops, lighting, and props! Bill and Tammy put their whole heart and soul into this place and it definitely shows.
