So I'm driving south on the 101 and there's a car to my right who is totally tailing the car in front of it. We're going 73 MPH and those cars are going faster. The car sw erves a bit and then cuts in front us. We look and it's a Coastline Academy car. I would never send my child to learn how to drive with a driver like that. Coastline Academy should know that they're being represented by their drivers with or without a student on board. So dangerous! read more

Not familiar at all with the State of Texas adult driving steps. They told me I would need to get a permit before they could give behind the wheel lessons... not aware that as an adult in Texas you apply for a restricted drivers license which allows adults to drive with a licensed driver supervising them. I already have the restricted license so they were a complete waste of time! read more

We have booked lessons for our son for January and they were cancelled and rescheduled for two months later. So we booked right before his test! Saw a Coastline Academy company car driven by a woman on Thursday 9/12/24 about 3:15 pm. When I first saw the car on the Benicia-Martinez bridge, I was interested in getting driving lessons for my teen. After observing the horrible driving of the woman behind the wheel, I quickly changed my mind. She was driving very close behind me at an unsafe distance. Once on Westbound on 780 towards Vallejo, I pulled over to the slow lane, I was going 70 mph, she sped past me at a least 75 mph or more. Driving lessons are expensive to begin with, and there is no way I am paying that kind of money for people to teach my kid how to drive in an unsafe manner. I would encourage the people giving the lessons to set the example for safe driving. read more

Money well spent on the six-hour lesson for our son; I should've hired them sooner. Jeffrey the instructor was thorough and provided great advice/tips. After each lesson, there's a report card to let the student know how they're doing. My husband and I even learned something new about bike lanes. Laws are always changing, and the days of free Driver's Ed in classrooms are long gone. I felt safe knowing Coastline Academy decked out their vehicles with their company logo, alerting other drivers there's a student driver - yikes! I love how everything is scheduled online, takes major credit cards, etc. Our son booked everything himself. Guess what, he passed the DMV behind-the-wheel test on the 1st try - PHEW! Run away from this company!! Total scam! We signed up at Coastline Academy, and had to wait 6 weeks to book an appointment on a weekend. Then, 2 weeks before that appointment the company abruptly cancelled it. The soonest weekend lesson they offered us was another 6 weeks away, which meant they took our money 3 months before they'd offer a weekend lesson. And, what is to say they won't cancel that one as well? Is this a scam? Sure seems like it. read more

They did not provide useful instruction and the information in the lessons was not a good preparation for the written test. They also failed to honor the driving lessons saying that they expired. I paid for both written text instruction and 6 hours of lessons, got subpar written test instruction and now do not receive the behind the wheel training that I paid for. AWFUL experience! Do NOT BOOK The DMV ROAD test lesson with them. I paid 6 hours lessons + DMV drive test. First: You can just book the DMV Road test lesson by the phone, tricky and I will tell you why: After I called Coastline and they booked with the only instructor that was available for the day of my test, I received the email confirming that it was booked. It seemed all good right? On the day of my test my instructor DIDN'T SHOW UP. Calling Coastline to understand what happened, they blamed me saying I CANCELED my own test, like what????? Why would I invest so much money and time to suddenly cancel the most important day that I was waiting for so long? Why I would cancel the FINAL STEP, the most expected day???? Where is the refund then? Or a warning? A confirmation that was canceled? nothing showing that was actually canceled. But they said I did it. They couldn't even send another person to come with me to the test. I missed the test that I was waiting for two months because they are disrespectful and irresponsible. Used them in Texas to get used to highways and found them easy to book, the instructors were calm and personable and knowledgeable and arrived promptly at the time on the lesson. The online driver's ed program is subpar. It's full of typos, the questions are unchallenging and easy to guess, the UI is confusing, they under-explain topics like gears but over explain seat belts and THE ANATOMY OF THE HUMAN EYE, and they over-priced the program. They've linked me to random YouTube videos and Wikipedia articles to try to learn things they can't explain on there own. Do not buy if you are looking for an in-depth explanation of driving to learn how to traverse the road. read more

When I went online to book again there were no lessons available for the next 2 months!!! I just tried to call them and was on hold for 6 minutes and it timed out. Everything went fine until my teenager went to the DMV for the driving test which she never got to do because we didn't have the gold certificate from Coastline and didn't know we needed such a thing. The coastline instructor had signed off on the permit so we thought we had everything. Coastline never gave us the gold certificate upon the completion of 6 hrs driving instruction. We had to leave the DMV and reschedule the driving test for another week. Coastline brought the certificate to our house that night but I'm still mad about the inconvenience and the fact that there was no check in place to make sure a certificate was issued. read more

Do not use this company. They do not have enough drivers, so you'll never get a lesson. Two months out with zero availability. I called and complained several times. They got my daughter two lessons, then the driver cancelled one of them. My daughter has only one lesson left to take and we can't book it. They stopped returning my calls and replying to my emails. So now I have to call again to try to get one last lesson. For a total of 3 lessons, it should be a lot easier to book. I would give a zero rating I could. They totally suck. read more

I am noticing some mixed reviews here. I had instructor LEON! He is the absolute best! He is such a lovely person. So patient and professional. Really knows how to explain. things well. I took 3 sessions with him and ended up driving from Henderson to LA! Something really clicked for me on our 3rd session. When we did freeway and highway lesson, I stopped fearing speed and that allowed me to become ok on the road and be a driver! He did for me in 3 sessions what other instructors could not do in 12 lessons! I'm so grateful to him because being able to drive makes me feel so free, independent and happy! read more

My driving instructor was Sam, in terms of professionalism, he was great - he did show up late a few times for sessions, but he made sure to make it up with a great lesson! I haven't taken driving lessons from Coastline in going on a good year - mostly because I haven't had the funds to do so. My permit will be expiring soon so I am going to try and rush to make more appointments if I can, I do have a behind the wheel test in February, so that should be exciting. I'm nervous, but I know that Coastline instructors make it so easy! The first time I made a lesson with them, Sam sat with me in the car for a good 30mins to an hour letting me ask questions, trying to calm my nerves, and even answering questions that I had asked probably a million times! He was super patient, made me laugh, and made me more comfortable behind the wheel, and gave me really good informative feedback and made sure I was safe on the road! Thank you Sam! I want to share with anyone who is considering Academy. Hopefully you would reconsider putting your child life in the hands of any driving instructor from Coastline. Perhaps they're on good behavior when they do their job. My experience with an instructor, who had no passengers in his vehicle, I assumed his off the clock. I was driving a Uhaul (15ft) on I-80W through Auburn CA yesterday Dec20,2023 @2:35pm on the #1 Lane and it was pouring down rain. I was traveling at 50-55 keep on eye on the short on ramp headed W as well. From nowhere came this speeding car on my left that straight out cut me off. I had to slam on truck brakes to avoid hitting it. With the abrupt stop I had to make, this Coastline driver swerved to his left sped up as he drove around to make the Ophir exit. He never slowed down as he exited. If I had not braked I would have crash into his car between driver door and right front tire. He flat out cut me off on the freeway. I had my 12 year old in the truck with. His wreckless driving is not worth losing your child over if this how they drive when alone. He certainly didn't care who was in my truck. We were shook and I call this company to complain about incident. I wanted them to know their drivers are irresponsible, wreckless,don't obey laws, dangerous, drive too fast, take chances forget safety. It was very scary and upsetting thinking people out trust Coastline driving instructor. Everyone takes a chance when they drive on roads Always watch out for the other guy. Right? What about the other guy? He works for Coastline. I told the company I'd write about this driver, their employee dangerous driving instructor. Make good choices! read more

Certificate for online course was ordered over a month ago and we paid for expedited shipping. Expedited shipping does not mean they are shipping it quickly. They have no tracking number and told me to wait three weeks. We still don't have it and now they are reordering it and we need to wait three weeks again. read more

The course was fine BUT this certificate of completion won't arrive for 2-3 weeks. Unless you want to pay extra for shipping. A bit of a scam if you ask me. So if you're anxious to move ahead more quickly with the driving go with a more local course so they can get the cert to you in a more timely manner. I found another company for my second son and they assure me we can have the certificate in hand within week at no extra charge. read more

It was probably just my teacher, a lady I do not remember her name, but she seemed very impatient and in a hurry,and sort of passive agressive, she knew it was my first lesson but I feel like she expected me to know how to drive like an experienced driver. She didn't take me through any lights or main roads for 2 hours we just went down a couple roads. She rarely called me out on my mistakes and didn't tell me how I could improve on my own. I genuinely did not feel comfortable/ at the level to go out driving with a licensed person on my own. Also I told her the way back to my house and she disagreed and didn't believe me and I ended up driving down this super narrow road not even relatively close to my house. read more

It was really easy to sign up for lessons through the website but the wait was rather long. Sam was easily my favorite instructor and he did so much to ease my anxiety before the test. We live in Walnut Creek, and I am not sure why Coastline Academy doesn't come up in our Google search for WC driving schools, but they are available in my area! I somehow found them, and was so happy to see they offer online booking, since I was tired of playing phone tag with other local driving schools (Although, I was able to easily reach someone by phone when I had a question). I also feel like their 3 2-hour lesson package is a good value. My daughter has had 2 of her 3 lessons now. She learned a lot from both instructors and has really built her skill and confidence. But, the main reason for writing this review is to recognize her instructor Anna. Anna is such a knowledgeable caring professional!!! She put my daughter at ease and made it a positive and enjoyable learning experience for her. I am 100% confident my daughter will pass her driving test. Thanks Coastline! read more
