In the past 25 years, we have bought and sold six homes in different states with great realtors in Arizona, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia,... The sale of this home on the coast with Coastal Realty was a nightmare, extremely chaotic, overwhelming stressful and disappointing from start to finish.
In the first 2 months, we were already considering canceling the contract due to the incompetence and unprofessionalism thus far that seemed to be on a downward spiral. The owner convinced us to remain with the realty, under the stipulation that she would co-list our home with the original agent and have the brand new agent just shadowing her throughout the process. Well, that is not how things proceeded and the chaos continued.
Needless to say, in the end, neither agent showed up for closing, nor did they notify us that they weren't going to do so. The buyer did not show up at closing and again, we weren't provided any explanation or information regarding this from either agent. Finally at 1:09pm, we signed our portion of closing papers with the title attorney, at which time she gave us a card for legal representation in case the sale did not go through by the end of the day. The title attorney, nor us, had any information as to where our "agents" were or why they had chosen to be absent at closing, what the buyers plans were, or if the sale was even going to close. We waited four hours after leaving the title company with still no communication from the realtor, when we finally contacted the owner at 5:00pm. She replied to us via "text message", very inappropriately, stating the buyer had the flu and was still in Texas (which she had to have known earlier in the day but chose not to communicate) and she had "just" signed virtually via another title company that moment. The owner never gave a reason for missing the closing , or failing to inform us that they weren't going to be there, nor any information the entire day as to where the buyer was or if she was even still purchasing the home, and the worst was "we even had to contact them" to get the information at the end of the day. That sums up our experience the past months with Coastal Realty. Unprofessional, unapologetic, unconcerned and unorganized.
Never underestimate the importance of a good realtor and choose wisely. It's quite costly in the end in more ways than one. read more
