I ventured into Coastal Outfitters last week to find my hubby a pair of sunglasses for his birthday. They don't sell Costas, but they do have a couple of other brands with polarized lenses, including a brand called Reflekt which has a great warranty. They also float. I opted to get those instead of going elsewhere for Costas. If he breaks or scratches them, we can pay $35 and send them in to be replaced as many times as necessary. If he loses them, they will replace them one time for $35. Not to mention, these sunglasses were about $50 less than the Costas that looked almost exactly the same. The store employees were very friendly and helpful. I was in and out of there within about 20 minutes. I noticed a large variety of clothing, coolers, and such. This would be a great place to shop for any man in your life. read more

They refused to let me exchange my cap for a larger size because tag was removed. I wasn't asking for a refund, just a hat that fit! Seems like the tag from hat that fit could be used on hat that was too small to make customer satisfied. We have taken grandkids shopping here before, but they will have to pick another store next time. read more

On a recent trip to Gulf Shores, my wife and I were stopping by World Market (a favorite store of ours for furniture and wine) and decided to go around the shopping center next to it where we found Coastal Outfitters. I had needed a new rain jacket (my old Columbia model had worn out) for several months and we saw the sign for Columbia, Northface, and other brands in the window. Once inside, we found an impressive collection of name brands of outdoor wear like Patagonia and AFCO shorts and the largest amount of YETI coolers I have seen. We wondered around for a few minutes before a younger-looking guy came up and asked if we needed any help. I told him we were looking for a rain jacket for me and pulled several off the rack for me to try on and gave me his personal recommendation of which was the best performing depending on the usage (hiking, packing for traveling, warmth/summer rain). I settled on a Mountain Hard Wear which was especially great because it was 50% off (they were having a season-end clearance)! The store also carries Chaco sandals which I had been eyeing for a year or two at Alabama Outdoors, but hadn't pulled the trigger on. I tried a few pairs on, but they didn't have my size in the black so they offered to ship them to me when they came in, free of charge. I ended up getting a green pair, but was impressed with the customer service they offered. At the end of the visit, I asked the guy at the check-out who the manager was because I wanted to complement the guy who helped us on being so considerate and found out it was the business owner- he had been helping me try on jackets and sitting on the floor adjusting my Chaco's. Needless to say, I was impressed by the customer service he showed and was especially glad to be supporting a small, local business instead of a big box store. We will definitely make stopping by Coastal Outfitters an annual tradition when we're headed to Gulf Shores and in need of any outdoor clothing (or hopefully a YETI if I can talk my wife into it ). read more

I dont often lambast but i am going to now. I have been a member of REI since 1979 and my membership card is cardboard, and no i dont want a shiny new one. Since working back in the south have also found kinnucans, in Bend I love the columbia and eddie bauer outlets. These stores are all outdoor outfitters. This place is a fru fru decorated tee shirt shop, with an occasional pair of convertible hiking pants. When i walked in i was the only one there, the shopkeeper was sitting in his checkout stand looking at the internet and listening to music. He ignored me. I asked him what I thought was a simple question - what was the warranty on the convertible pants as i had never heard of the brand. He had no idea. I asked what the store warranty was - he said none! To say this is an outfitter shop is to say that motel 6 is an uber high end luxury resort. I will never visit the store again. There are REI and columbia stores in reasonable driving distance. read more

After my friend told me his brother owns this place, the explorer in me had to check it out! Everyone who knows me knows that the clothes they sell here aren't my style, but that didn't stop me from picking up 'souvenirs' to take back home for my parents who love outdoors clothing even though they don't go outside. Coastal Outfitters offers a variety of brands familiar to the North Face fan such as Columbia but also supports local brands in their stock. There is always something on sale at any given time. The sale room is where you'll typically find me and I was able to find a pair of sandals for my mom and sunglasses for my dad. Fortunately, the service was friendly to me. I'm clueless about these sort of outdoors places. So it was really helpful for the employee to be able to navigate someone like me, who basically lives, in a mall to be able to pick out things that will make my parents smile. read more

My husband and I wandered into this store while on a recent long weekend in Pensacola. It's been a long time since I've found a store staff to be so friendly and helpful. This store is family owned so we spent a good bit of time talking to one of the owners who took the time to do so. If we lived in this area I would be back to the store frequently for myself, our family and for gift ideas. Highly recommend! read more

Worst place ever rude staff and crazy prices I will take my business else where to people who appreciate me

Coastal Outfitters could be a small, "boutique" specializing in fishing and other outdoor activities. However, due to their limited choices of merchandise, and their attitude toward customers, I do not see how this outfit is going to stay in business. As an example, I purchased a North Face jacket and sought to return same a few weeks later. The jacket did not fit me properly and I offered to exchange for another brand of jacket. The sales clerk was personable, but assured me that there was no way that I could obtain a refund or an exchange! I had the sales receipt, which I gave to her, then I was told the Tags were missing from the jacket.The bottom line was that it was against company policy to take returns or exchanges without the receipt AND the tags. Guess one had better be sure of your purchase when you buy from this outfit. I have run into this problem with other small retail stores.When it comes to exchanges and returns the big boxes, Academy, and Bass Pro, really come through! read more
