Professional, caring, made us feel our dog is important. So glad we took our baby there.

Golden Isles Animal Hospital

My pets are not current patients of Golden Isles Animal Hospital, and after a deeply disappointing…read moreboarding experience, they never will be. After two years of saving, we finally planned a short vacation out of state. Since our vet does not offer boarding, I contacted Golden Isles Animal Hospital to arrange a 4 night stay for my diabetic cat. She had been stable for almost a year with oral medication and a closely monitored diet, especially her water intake, which is significant due to her condition. I made sure to explain this clearly: she needs her water bowl refilled frequently and medication administered once daily. That's it. She's super easy, just keep an eye on the water bowl. I even left these instructions in her medicine bag stating exactly this. Because of her condition, I was told she'd need to come in for a "trial day," before the boarding, to ensure everything would go smoothly. She did very well, and the assistants praised her for how sweet, bubbly and easy she is. After that trial, she came home, sat by her water bowl, and drank water nonstop for 15 minutes. In hindsight, this is more concerning than it felt at the time. I trusted that this animal hospital would, at the very least, keep a diabetic cat hydrated and comfortable. So surely this must be stress related.. right? I brought up her water intake again at the time of her boarding, and they assured me that someone would "always be with her." I now understand that "someone in the building" may not mean someone qualified, or attentive enough, to actually monitor her needs. On the morning we were scheduled to pick her up, we received a call at 7am asking us to come immediately. She had been found lying on her side in her litter box, lethargic, dehydrated, could not walk without falling, and vocalizing in distress. As soon as we arrived, I asked if the vet or a tech could assist. I was told by your staff that no tech or vet had been on duty over the weekend, and wouldn't be that day either. The person who handed her over said she'd been fine for the first couple of days, but by day 3 had become slightly lethargic, so they gave her corn syrup. We asked if her blood sugar was checked before that, to ensure it was low blood sugar causing the lethargy, but the answer was no. It was given to her blindly. If this lethargy was that concerning, to the point of giving her corn syrup without checking her blood sugar, then why wasn't I called and informed of it at the very least? I would have come home immediately to get her and take her to her vet. There were no clear records of what had happened over the weekend from your staff. Evidently, they had been rotated, and the person speaking to us admitted they weren't there for two of the four days, so they weren't entirely sure what happened. We were handed a brochure for an emergency clinic and told to take her there, as they had no one to help her. We then took her over to her vet, who did some quick tests and found her very dehydrated with high blood sugar, cold and stressed, and urged us to take her to the emergency clinic immediately, so we did. She was admitted and cared for, but her condition continued to worsen. She passed away the very next day. I am absolutely devastated. It is heartbreaking to think that a stay intended to be safe and routine ended this way. I will always question what happened during those days when we weren't with her, and if any of it could have been prevented, had they called me at the first red flag.. If only I could give 0 stars. Thanks for literally nothing.

We get in and they bring him to the back to check him out, heart worms. The receptionist/assistant I'm guessing, after telling me that he had to be put down, "This is the worst case I've ever seen. You should've taken better care of him, this is horrible." I'm literally in the waiting room after being in the back (or side room, whatever) crying with my dog, and that's what she had to say? The best part: it cost about 300 dollars, for an ER you'd think they have payment plans because you know, you can't plan for every emergency. Not only did it take three people including myself to pay for it, if we didn't pay it THEY WERE GOING TO SEND HIM HOME US LIKE THAT. THEY WOULDVE RATHER SENT HIM HOME WITH ME DYING, THAN SEND US A BILL. I've got choice words for that lady behind the desk but my language on reviews are limited. Don't bring your pets here. If you have a regular vet you go to, chances are if you call them after hours you'll still get in touch with them because they too have emergency lines, if you don't get an answer leave a voicemail. Just don't come here. Picture of my dog Zuberi for dog tax. I miss you everyday.
