I requested an emergency call today because my dog is paralysed and cannot get in and out of the house without the elevator and it was not operating. These people are basically thieves They delivered a brand new elevator with hydraulic fluid stains all over the walls I had to haggle with them to even get $100 off let alone no replacement when it was first installed The service personnel that installed it left their McDonald's wrappers and all of their ties underneath the elevator when it stopped working and was drawn up the floor, I saw all the trash left behind The elevator stopped working they sent a technician out. They told me that for $350 I would be able to use warranty to fix whatever issues arose from it not working. Once the technician came out and told me that my hydraulic seals were gone, not only was it not covered under warranty. The service charge was exorbitant because he got it to work left, and it stopped working before he left the property. They suggested hydraulic seal replacement replacements at close to $2000 I worked on getting another elevator company out here alchemy their technician was able to fix the elevator. Only charge me $225 even though we traveled further and confirm that I did not have an issue with leaking hydraulic seals. The challenge the charge back credit card company ruled in favor of the vendor not me. I canceled the credit card and I'm not paying that amount. If I could do less than a one star, I would. Twice they have come for an annual service and within a week, something shuts the system down. The first time, I paid for it. The second, no why. Why? The second time, the service tech that cam out was either high, or had been locked in a car with someone getting high. REEKED of pot. I called and told the company. Did they do anything when three days later the lift quit working? No. Did they quickly respond? No. As a matter of fact, it was only AFTER i had a hissy fit that they came and fixed something. A missing screw and a dirty unit. It SHOULD have been caught during the service call. Can we say LIABILITY for sending a stoned technician out to my house? To their credit, they haven't attempted to bill me for the service call. read more

Coastal Elevators And Lifts installed our elevator in late 2020. We purchased an elevator from Coastal with promises of 3 years of warranty. When we needed the repair within the 3 year period, we were informed that our elevator was no longer covered. So, we paid Coastal to come over and make the needed repairs. On July 1, 2024 I called Coastal Elevators to schedule a routine maintenance on our elevator. I was told during this call a routine maintenance would cost $160.00. I agreed to this cost and schedule the technician for July 10, 2024 after 11:30 am. On July 10th a technician came. I wasn't home, but my husband was here and expecting the technician. After a 20 minute service, the technician presented my husband with an invoice for $350.00. When I returned home, I was told of the quick service and the usurous bill! I immediately called Coastal Elevators. The manager answered the phone. She was very defensive when I spoke to her via speaker w/my husband on the call as well. I explained about the first call I made and charges I was quoted. We were informed that $160.00 whet to elevator maintenance and $190.00 was travel expenses. I questioned whether the technician traveled from North Carolina to visit us on Leads Ave. (We live in North Charleston, approximately 1 mile from West Ashley.). NO, the technician traveled from Summerville to visit us. I continued to try to work with the Manager. The Manager continued to get very angry and abusive on the phone. We asked to speak with the owner and was told the owner does not make scheduled office visits. Our call ended when I told the Manager that I would pay only what I was quoted when I scheduled the appointment. The Manager just continued to get more abusive on the phone to us. Finally, I knew I didn't need to take this type of abuse and hung up on her. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY OF YOUR NEEDS!!! read more

Our builder selected Coastal as the installer for our home elevator (he no longer uses them - telling). We signed a maintenance agreement, which we renewed for several years. Throughout that period we had trouble with the inner gate rattling ajar, making it impossible to recall the elevator. We raised the issue regularly, and each time they claimed to address it, but it was never fixed. Scheduling service required dealing with the extremely rude and unhelpful office staff. But they were always happy to contact us to renew the maintenance contract! We finally contacted our builder for a recommendation. The new maintenance contractor immediately identified the problem and fixed it (still holding several months later) - a simple adjustment to close the gate more securely. He also identified the lack of baffles designed to prevent small children and pets from being trapped between the gate and door, which can lead to their being crushed. $75 fix, which he said has been a federal requirement for several years. Coastal never mentioned it. If I could give this company negative stars I absolutely would. RUN AWAY! read more

Coastal Elevator installed our 3 stop residential elevator in Mt Pleasant in June 2024. We learned that they are the only distributor of Inclinator products and it was the only company that could accommodate our shaft that was already in the house. The techs that installed it were really good and it was working very well for the first year. They came back several times to make any necessary adjustments to address squeaks and noises , etc. Shortly after the year , we noticed that the gate was pulling away from the support bracket , the slats are separating, and causing the door to slide around which of course causes it to stop "mid-ride". Upon closer inspection we found that the gate is 5 inches longer than the cab brace and the top screw is yet 3 inches lower resulting in 8 inches of the gate being unsopported and subject to all the vibration of the unit every time it is used. It is currently reinforced with Gorilla tape!!! Otherwise it would be completely unusable and is a critical need for our life. We called Coastal to come, the tech said maybe the gate didn't have enough slats causing too much tension and might be able to be repaired. ( The elevator has a 2 year warranty and does not cover the gate apparently) We were told it needed to be replaced at a cost of over $4000. The elevator was $32,000. We then also reached out to Inclinator and after several attempts did get in touch with the Sales Manager who advised us that the door is provided by yet another company, Porta. So here we are after 4 months getting a complete runaround. Coastal has not provided any supportive customer service to us, their client, and just says "you need a new gate". This situation is just unacceptable. No one is willing to accept any responsibility for a design flaw that has resulted in us having an elevator ( potentially for $36000 that is unoperable without gorilla tape!. read more

Coastal Elevators installed a 3 stop elevator in a new house we built and the elevator worked fine except we didn't notice that the floor position indicator on the call station was incorrect on one floor due to the controller not being configured correctly during installation. Coastal Elevator insisted that since we didn't notify them about the installation error during the warranty period that they would not correct the mistake without a charge. Why should they profit from a mistake they made during installation? read more

This company is shabbily run. We installed a hydraulic residential elevator less than a year ago. We've had nothing but electrical trouble with it. It is still under warranty and needs a new door lock on the top floor. They wanted my credit card number even though it is still under warranty and could not get out here for days to fix it. I called another service company who told me what the problem was and that the part I need should be under a 2 year warranty. Coastal has not returned my call about honoring the warranty. My next step will be to have another company fix it and then take Coastal to court to reimburse me for repairs. read more

My experience with Coastal was great! We purchased a house that has an elevator so my 90 year old dad can get around easily. It stopped working after a few months, and Coastal was able to come out the same day to fix it. Turned out to be minor - back up battery needed to be replaced. The office person (Nancy was her name, I think) was very pleasant and helpful. We signed up for yearly maintenance with them as well. read more

I have made three appointments for preventive maintenance. For all but one appointment, the technician never showed up at the scheduled time window AND did not call to communicate the no-show. When I was able to reach the office staff they were not helpful or polite. Since the most recent no-show (12/13/2018) for a scheduled appointment, I have been unable to get the office staff to answer their phone. Am glad I did not have an emergency repair. Very poor customer service. read more

Our family was having a get together last weekend at 311 West Ashley, Folly Beach and we noticed a slight problem with the elevator door "sticking" on the second floor. Coastal Elevator finally sent someone to check it out at which time, upon investigation, he decided that the problem was the lack of 4 screws in a bracket holding the lock mechanism on the elevator door. It didn't look as if that was the problem to me, but he proceeded to drill four 4" screws in the bracket. I was downstairs while he completed the job and after 5 minutes, he walked down the steps, (I later found out why he didn't take the elevator), told me to sign his paper and he'd be on his way. I signed it, thanked him and he quickly exited. My wife went to use the elevator five minutes later and discovered that there was no power to the entire elevator system. We called Coastal Elevator System and requested the serviceman return to figure out what was wrong. He returned 30 minutes later, played with it for an hour, gave the excuse that "technical support had closed for the day" and said that there was nothing that he could do. Let me explain that there was nothing that would've stopped the elevator from working before he arrived, he put 4 screws blindly in a wall that contained the wiring for the elevator to operate, nicking wires and shutting down the entire system and then proclaims that he doesn't know how to fix it. I'll further explain that we let the repairman and "Nancy" at the desk know that this party was arranged for my 88 year old father, who has dementia, and his 80+ year old sisters and brother. I also explained, several times, that six of these family members were either in wheelchairs or walkers. Since Coastal Elevator was responsible for ruining the elevator service at such a critical time, I was sure that they would bring someone out first thing the next morning to repair their stupidity. You can imagine my utter dismay when they told me that they wouldn't be able to send someone out to repair their ineptness! They claimed that we were "rude" to their poor repairman that rendered our elevator useless the day before the party. There were six of us there and not one person spoke out of line in any way to anyone. He ruined the elevator system, left KNOWING he installed four screws into an active wire, made a courtesy attempt to look as if he tried, couldn't fix it and Coastal Elevator refused to come back, even the next day, to repair their damage. Needless to say, they will face legal action by our family and have been reported to SC LLR. Never, never use this company! After calling other elevator companies in Charleston, I had three ask me who would do something like this to which I replied Coastal Elevator and each one said some derivative of "that was to be expected". Because of their total lack of workmanship and responsibility in repairing damage caused by their slack employee, two of my aged father's sisters were not able to attend the family get together after being driven to Charleston from Greenwood, SC while the others had to be carried up the steps.
