Since we couldn't get a hold of anyone we ended up paying out of pocket for a one day rental and the Hertz clerk even said that Triple A would reimburse us (I've heard this before as well) and gave us a copy of the receipt. So when we came home we went to see the local Triple A office located in Cape Girardeau. We explained to the woman working behind the counter what had happened, showed her our one day car rental receipt, and that we wanted to fill out a form so we would receive a reimbursement. She reluctantly gave us a form and stated at least three times that she never heard of Triple A reimbursing someone for a car rental. She even made the comment that she's been with the company for 5 years or so. She sensed that I was about to become very irate after telling her that my husband and I were both calling Triple A when our car engine blew in the middle of the New Mexico desert with two children, but no one answered. It was not our fault that Triple A didn't answer our call promptly. Well, about a month later we received our reimbursement check from Triple A. I wish I knew the name of the lady that was not very friendly (or knowledgeable about Triple A reimbursements) so I could let her management team know she needs more training and people skills. You'd think after 5 years on the job she would know something.
