My streak is intact! Driving back from Vegas to Des Moines and stopped in Laramie for the night. With the threat of snow looming for the rest of the drive, decided to leave a little early. The only place we stopped before leaving town was Coal Creek for a mug of coffee for the road which means I have never been to Laramie without stopping here for coffee. The place is cozy, and if I were local I would spend a lot of time here. The service is always friendly when I go in, and I always leave with great coffee. Coal Creek is a Laramie treasure, and living 650 miles away makes it difficult to enjoy often which is why I make the effort every time I am here to go even if I don't go anywhere else. read more

I am a frequent yelp reviewer and I typically don't post a one star in fact this may be my first. Went in with a friend to check it out waste of time. My friend ordered a sandwich which she reported was good. I waited 30 minutes for a salad no kidding. Right as I finished watching my friend eat they brought my salad. I actually did not eat it and they returned my money as I wasn't sitting there and now have her watch me eat. First and last time at this place. There are good places to chill and eat in Laramie if you want something along these lines try 2nd street deli really good food and great service. read more

The drip coffee was actually great, 4.5 stars for that and a recommended stop for drip coffee. I drink cortados almost every day and it's been my drink of choice for years: I am a home barista as well....The cortado was so terrible that my wife and I both decided it was the single worst cortado we've ever had. Old grinds filled the bottom of the cup: my best theory is that they have not cleaned this espresso machine in way too long. Such a bitter nasty taste to this. Took one sip and tossed it. They have several seating areas (if you need to study, or meet a group). I even purchased a bag of their French kids dark East coffee. They will grind it to your liking in house. The breakfast sandwich was pretty basic and lacking flavor. Eggs in sandwich tasted like their was corn in it. Not a fan. The coffee and green tea were good. read more

We stopped here for breakfast sandwiches and were pleasantly surprised! We called ahead to order them and the cafe was very patient in explaining the bagel sandwich options. We opted for a cheddar-green chili bagel breakfast sandwich and a plain bagel breakfast sandwich. The bagels were definitely homemade (or tasted homemade) and tasted delicious. Roasted: driving through Laramie WY and found Coal Creek Coffee. It's located in the downtown area. They have decent indoor seating with a little outdoor seating as well. The menu is extensive here with bakery items and food along with the coffee. Clean and simple but doesn't have a homey feel you look for in a coffee shop. Barista was nice and pleasant. Good selection of sugar free flavors and was glad to be able to get our lattes for here. No latte art but latte was quite tasty - perfect sweetness and temperature, espresso was just slightly over extracted but I'd come back for another coffee for sure. Unroasted: coffee shop located in this cute downtown Laramie. The staff was a lil busy and we waited 5min before our order was taken. The decor doesn't make it feel warm. I needs some plants scattered around. The latte price was cheap and the taste was pretty good. I had a slight burnt after taste but it was still drinkable. Came here on a day off with my family. Atmosphere is 5/5 with great vibes and a helpful staff. The coffee is the best quality that I have experienced in WY but you will pay a premium for it. In my opinion it is worth it. If I were to come back I would only come for the coffee. The food was expensive and boring. The drinks are fantastic. We had a seasonal lavender latte- absolutely delicious, a spicy iced chai- pretty good but not my thing, and a bag of their troublemaker coffee beans. Although we haven't had the coffee yet, it smells so good I wanna eat the beans. The two staff at the counter were kind but a bit intimidating initially- I blame it on it being like 9 am. I've only been to the downtown location, but the east location would've been nice for a nice Sunday morning snack (although, I never had the chance to make it over to that location). Fun fact: the downtown location is tied to Coal Creek Taphouse which is cool I guess. The wooden chairs and hard floors provide the atmosphere of a real brewery. The little desserts are cute and they do have quite an extensive beer and coffee selection. Occasionally, they do have live music as well. Hadn't been to Coal Creek downtown in a while because the food had gone downhill. Thought I'd give it another chance so stopped in for lunch. Ordered a cup of soup/salad combo listed as $12 on the menu. They rang it up as $14 and when I asked they said the price had gone up. Ok. Whatever. Took forever to get my food even though there were two people working and maybe four people in the entire place. When I got my corn chowder it was weirdly grainy like the cream had split and the "chefs" salad was mostly decomposing lettuce, a little bit of chopped up sliced deli ham and turkey sprinkled on top, some cherry tomatoes and cucumber, a hard boiled egg and some tzatziki as a dressing. Tzatziki as a chefs salad dressing? Ok. Whatever. So in terms of food I guess not much has changed. Stay tuned for my next update when I try again in another year or two. I wanted to like this place because it is convenient to my home and work, but I've had a bad experience every time I've been here. Last time I went I ordered a grilled cheese. It had one tiny square of cheese on it so I showed an employee and they said it looked like they didn't put enough cheese on it, but she didn't offer a new one. Today I ordered a large pizza and chai and the pizza was TINY. I thought they messed up and gave me a small but when I told the cashier she said the "dough wasn't rolled out well" which made it look small. I was heading through Laramie and decided to try Coal Creek Coffee. Soooooo glad I did! I just wanted a GREAT coffee. I almost always order a breve with no flavor at every coffee shop I go to. My secret weapon in case of bad coffee is that I carry a small bottle of hazelnut syrup in my truck just in case. . If the coffee is good coffee, I sure don't need or want any flavor. Sure, get the coffee when you need coffee, buy some, take it home, but when you want to go out for a good brew that isn't pressed from beans, go here. They have won competitions and awards, Wyoming Toad is seriously excellent, as are several other brews. The interior is cozy, slightly industrial but really one of the nicest places I've been to just have a drink. They do cribbage nights too which is fun. You can also buy growlers and take the beer home with you. If you only pick one place to try local beer at this is it, though other local beers are good too, this one has the nicest atmosphere to sit in while you drink it.
