During the day, parents can bring their children and enjoy a nice carvery lunch for a very reasonable price. Sundays are pretty much taken over by screaming children so if you don't have a little one then give it a miss this day. The beer garden is popular with all ages both day and night time. You can hear the Botanic stream near by so for once the term "garden" applies. It's a nice change to be in a quiet residential area where you don't have to listen to too much traffic. In my opinion, one of the best times to visit the Tolka House is around Christmas time. Everyone in the neighbourhood seems to congregate here to celebrate the holidays. I have some very fond memories of meeting up with old friends and having a grand old time.

We were outside and it was a bit chilly even with the gas heaters going. The staff brought out blankets for everyone. A quick solution was to go inside and purchase a Johnny Fox's sweatshirt for 30 Euros. It was definitely worth it and made the event more comfortable. The staff was very friendly. They had a food truck for us making burgers, veggie burgers, and shrimp tacos which I had. The food truck people were fast and able to keep up with the demand of 80 people at once. We also had some Irish Coffee as well as pints of Guinness. The 2 piece band were excellent. They also had Irish Dancers who performed some tap pieces as well as the jig. Seating outside and inside as well. Very busy. Lively. Another great pub with some interesting history.

By the time we reached this place, we felt we earned every drink and nibble of food. By the time we ventured here, it was my 7th day of driving on the "correct" side of the road for the first time in my life, so the route here was certainly the final boss which required all my driving skills and full focus. The food was delicious and felt like something home cooked by your grandparents. Although I get the impression from locals that this is kind of a touristy place, I did not get that vibe from the atmosphere here. There were people from out of town asking about the dancing show, which is in a separate room and you need to purchase tickets for this in advance. The service here is what you would expect from Europeans: friendly, but slow. They seem to want to make you feel welcome to stay and not rushed out the door. I always feel awkward having to ask for the check, but I am getting better at it Overall, the experience was just what we were looking for: something warm and cozy after a week of dreary, cold Irish weather overlaid on top of our 12+ hour workdays. The table we sat next to were some local roofers who had far more difficult and dangerous jobs than we did, so we ended up leaving this place with a sense of gratitude for our jobs. Energized and refreshed from the long journey, we plowed through the rain and mist back down the mountain to our hotel in Dublin. The main roads here are far easier to traverse than the backroads.

King scallops and polenta fries were paired for another main. It was very good with a pesto sauce. Also on the table was the Cauliflower Steak, the vegetarian option, it was reportedly good but not too filling. Don't get me wrong, vegetarian and vegans have strong options here. Lastly, the burger and chips were on the table. They disappeared quickly. High Marks for this place

The food is usually really good here, but this visit was disappointing overall. The corn croquettes were cheesy and tasty, which was a nice highlight. However, the potatoes in my salad tasted stale, and the grilled cabbage side was mushy rather than having any crunch or depth of flavour. The bacon jam on the burger was not pleasant, and the fried onion ring was soggy and stale. I'm not sure if it was just an off day or if something has changed in the kitchen, but with so many other great options around, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

We found this place by accident after asking the locals for a recommendation on good food options. There are so many options in Philsboro but we didn't have internet access to check Yelp. Woodstock is a cafe/Hofbrau that serves comfort food that I know and love. They have a very good roast pork option that has the crispy skin attached. You get several slices of thinly sliced pork with an enormous helping of vegetables and potatoes. The meat was well seasoned and tender. I was given two kinds of gravy and it worked out quite well. But I won't be smug about the cuisine; Benny's has been keeping teens and taxi drivers happy for years now, so the formula clearly works. The eat-in area is clean and bustling with very local eaters.
