It also houses an excellent Tourist Information Office. Every Thursday and Saturday morning, there's a coffee morning held in the upstairs bar/supper-room run by a different local charity. There is a good sized lift to take you up there and the Balcony, if the stairs are a problem. This together with the W.I. country market downstairs each Thursday, and the monthly Blood Drive in the main theater, make the Coro something akin to a Community Center. The square outside has been redeveloped to make it more pedestrian friendly. The statue of Laurel and Hardy will be unveiled by Ken Dodd on the Saturday 18th of April 2009.

The choice of shows available to come and see are really good and there is a lovely dance floor where the downstairs seating is which is sometimes used for old time dancing. If you are smaller than many then it is wise to go for the raked seating downstairs or the 3rd, 4th or 5th row on the balcony for the best view. The tourist information office is also in the Coro and their are rooms to hire upstairs.

He also does restoration work, whether it be on a photo which I got paint on whilst decorating, or a treasured photo from your family's history. It is also possible to get work framed here for a reasonable price. I love this shop, and normally buy something each time I go in! The new site for the Laurel and Hardy Museum was opened on…read more April 18th 2009, at what was the Roxy Cinema behind the Coronation Hall. Entry is £4 Adults, Children under 12, OAPS, and Student Union members are £3 and if you are 2 adults & 2 children under 12 you can have a Family ticket for £8. The new venue is not yet wheelchair acessable, but they are working on it. I will let you know when this is finished. I will add photos of the new venue soon.

Staffed by one of the Sons of the Desert, this is a perfect day out for parents and brats. A real Utopia located in Ulverston, the museum is guaranteed to leave 'em laughing. This big business has a treasure trove of delights, from Hollywood artefacts to personal letters. The cinema is the finishing touch, with a non-stop series of films. Unaccustomed as we are to see the films on the tv these days, this is a double whoopee for fans. Hats off to the manager. So, pack up your troubles and head for them thar hills. I saw him struggle to get a football shirt, absolutely perfect, so that it could be given as a present. When he framed one of mine he had a good range to choose from, and it cost very little. He sometimes stocks woodcarvings. I have bought a couple. They are beautiful. The shop is run by Ann, who is there, because Tim is so busy, and will shoot off somewhere else without warning! I always feel free to browse without pressure to buy.

At the recommendation of our taxi driver, we stopped for a visit at the Lakes Aquarium while on a…read morecruise on Lake Windermere. Being from Miami, Florida, I was a bit skeptical about what they could have in the the aquarium that I may not have seen in others in other cities. From the outside, it did not look like much, but hey, being on holiday, why not give it a try? Once we entered and began to see all the little exhibits, we were surprised to see the variety of exhibits inside. There was a variety of freshwater and saltwater aquatic life as well as other creatures of interest. Unlike larger aquariums where you may need to do a giraffe neck stretch or lift your children in an over the head lift so they can catch a precious glimpse of an animal, the Lakes Aquarium affords one the opportunity to see things up close and personal which for both the young and the young at heart makes for an enjoyable visit. The exhibits are grouped by local, around the world, mammals, reptiles and amphibians offering a wide range of displays to see. One of the more popular exhibits was the otters which also had an animal talk. I would suggest that if you wish to get in on it, that you arrive early so you can both see and hear as the sound system is quite lacking. Among my personal favorites were the otters, the display of leaf cutter ants which can carry up to 20 times their weight in leaves. At first glance, several people looked and started to walk away, but when they saw how much the ants were hauling, couldn't help but stop and watch them for several minutes. Though not overly huge, the Lakes Aquarium is large and has something for everyone and makes a great introduction to aquatic life for people of all ages. It is worthy of a visit, especially if you are taking a lake tour. There are boats that run frequently from the pier. If there is a wait for the boat, you can stop at the snack bar and grab a bite before boarding.
