We visited Levens Hall and gardens on a warm summers day.The fragrance from the gardens hit us as soon as we opened the car doors. The house and the gardens are Elizabethan but the earliest building on the site was a pele tower, later in 1590 the house took it's place.A lovely house it is too, well kept and very beautiful. It has some lovely rooms filled with fine examples of furniture and art as well as some of the earliest pieces of english patchwork. There are also some of the best examples ever of spanish leather wall coverings which may sound boring but are very immpressive to see.The house is just gorgeous and I would'nt even try to do it justice, there's no way I could as you just have to see it.
When you go out into the well kept elizabethan gardens it's just breathtaking. There's lots of little hidey holes where you can sit and rest and enjoy the views. There's also a beautiful fountain.
The hall is located in the south lakes,Cumbria.
and is well worth the £10.50 adult,£4.50 children or £26 family(2 adults and up to 3 school age children)
There's the usual cafe (which sold realy delicious food) and gift shop.
We spent the whole day here and we intend to go back again. They regularly do special events all year round as well. read more
