Aside from the usual selection of meats they have something very special indeed - a fresh fish counter - surprisingly rare in the area and odd considering we are right beside the sea, anyway, the fish is always very fresh but a little expensive - actually thats probably a fair comment overall... but worth it for the odd treat or when you are feeling flush!

Which translates as, 'Annie we are on our way to snoop around your apartment and to see if you care enough to cook us Sunday dinner.' I woke with my pillow stuck to my hungover face when the text woke me. Stuffing the party paraphernalia of the night before in the washing machine in haze whilst sleeping bodies twitched at my feet. Once the clean up was done, the dinner panic ensued, this butchers signage welcomed me in. Once the butchers stopped laughing at me, they picked out the best cut of meat to cut in a hurry, they even told me the best temperature to put it at. Best of all they are cheap, I'm all about the cheap. The result was the folks loved it and believe that I am a well adjusted adult.

For example, on Fridays they get in these deliciously tender venison medallions in. They are so good that they are usually gone that evening. They do lots of deals for buying protein in bulk and have lots of other deals on everything from chicken fillets to steaks. The guy who runs the place is lovely as well. He is always ready and willing to give advice and recomendations on their meats.

It's all local (from their farm), delicious, and delivered to you with a plethora of advice, commentary and gags from both the staff and the always-entertaining queue of people (if you want a slice of real Dublin life, stand in the queue on a Saturday morning and listen to the banter in there). Hats off to the guy who works here, who is dressed up to the nines in traditional butcher's costume - stripey red and white cap included. It's almost like walking into one of those trad candy stores... it's quite a special experience being served by someone who cares so much about his profession that he dresses up every day! Then you have the store itself.. it's like stepping back into the 70s... brownish tiles and very retro interior which probably hasn't been modernised since it was built. Very cool indeed. And then when you go to pay, the butcher has a special accounting room he goes into to collect your change. With all this old world charm how could you possibly do your meat shopping at a clinical supermarket?!?

I did expect to get 4 tiny steaks for that price but they were a good size. I was impressed. As well as a great range of meats they also have some prepacked packets where things are in marinade ... and these come with instructions! Hooray! Lately Cosgraves have some amazing offers. 1 euro each for chicken fillets, pork chops and other unbelievably cheap offers. Cheaper than a German supermarket any day!
