I bought myself a second hand Honda Civic. The air conditioning on it had gone though. The light came on, but it clearly wasn't working. It's not easy to spot these things when you first inspect a car. You can live without air con but if its there you might as well be using it, especially when it's hot and you don't want your windows open on the motorway, which is what I do a lot.
