The rest of my tale is a bit sadder.
"Country Club", a least to me, conveys a certain air of elegance. The Orleans Country Club Restaurant is more like a Mason's Hall that's been cleared out and tables erected for an annual dinner and officer's election.
There is little in the way of decoration and the views that seem to be everywhere in this state are almost completely absent, blocked by the ever-present trees.
When we entered, there was no greeter or sign asking us to take a table, so we sat on a handy couch while golfers, fresh from the links plodded past. Finally, one of our group snagged one of the two waitresses who directed us to take our choice of tables, all of which save one was available.
The menu listed a nice selection of dinners, most of which, we were informed, were not available. On closer examination, we saw the menu instructed us to "Check the Chronicle or our website at orleanscc.com for the weekly posting."
